Australia / Re: SA Records lookup please
« on: Monday 09 August 10 12:41 BST (UK)  »
Many thanks to all for the information.

Saddles...will follow through on Adam Ramage info.

Sashar...
thanks for reminding me that Newman may not be Anglo. The 1826 Robert Ramage is a bit early, but maybe an earlier generation. The occupation, miner, is in keeping with the Burra region. Will keep info on file.

Kris....
the Robert married 1886 aged 23 connects with some info I have. Will follow through on the remaining info.

Hi Mezza123

Many thanks for the info.

Re the Morgan's & Furlongs I can confirm. Have info of the Morgan's back to the late 1700's, and the Furlong's Mauritian history, but nothing earlier.

Re PH Latimer....your info was the same as I was lead to believe, but have found parts of it to be incorrect.

I am Richard's daughter.

Will send you a pm.

Cavan / Re: Richard Burns

Hi Kate

Re Richard born c1834 father John.

I am searching for siblings/family of my GGGrandmother Jane Burns born c1829 in Bailieborough. I have found a brother Rev William Burns born c1828 Bailieborough. Their parents were Huston born c1800 & Elizabeth nee Liscoe born c1804, married 1825 Co Meath.

Jane married Richard Morgan in 1853 Bailieborough and within a few months came to Australia.

There was a Huston Burns who went to Orange County New York about the same time. Have been unable to confirm that he was a sibling of Jane's or possibly a first cousin.

Have connected with a Burns descendent from Huston in New York State, and his research has found a John Burns born1803 and Margaret Morgan, born 1804 and married 1824.

This may be a long shot but could there be a connection for your Richard.

Australia Lookups completed / Re: Researching the surname CORINGO
« on: Tuesday 16 February 10 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Dee, Wivenhoe, Jamjar and Judith

Before I complete this thread here is a quick update as follows:

Have been in contact with descendents from two of Mary Jane’s sisters, Frances and Louisa, and awaiting a reply from descendents of Isabel.

Dee...the lead from the NAA; all those Cornejo’s arriving here were in the 20th century. Have requested a search for the 19th century.

Contacted the NLA to see what information they had on the SA Spanish Muleteers in the 1850’s. They sent me a couple of newspapers articles, plus the titles of a couple of publications re the copper mines in the Burra area. (have learnt so much of SA history)

Have found one of the ships that transported 200 mules and 14 Chillian natives, the “Malacca” in 1855, plus a photo of the Portuguese Galleon. There was another ship in 1856 with 22 Chillian natives.

Re Margaret McGlinn, a family story is that she landed in SA after the ship was wrecked off the SA coast.

I will complete this thread now and if I decide to research the Ramage’s and Newman’s will make new threads.

Many thanks for all your contributions, especially you Dee..... in helping find my family.

Dee

Definately worth mentioning and chasing up. You've just given me a reason to take tomorrow afternoon off from doing any work and follow this lead through.   ;D

Hi Dee

Sure does.....it has filled in the gaps and given me another generation to research....later. ;D

Now to find if Percival stayed with his mum Mary-Jane or was reared elsewhere......and where does the Latimer name fit in. A trip to SA definately on the agenda.

You said that you had been to the Princess Royal station, was that a sheep station and in what area?

Many thanks
