When you say there is no such thing as a legal name - people can call themselves what they like.
How does this sit with driving passports, bank accounts etc.

Still fairly early on in the research, and no I have no proof that the pair moved to the USA only that the daughter was there.  Anyway thank you for your reply  Elizabeth.

Tipperary / Stephen Agen and Maria Steen
« on: Friday 19 August 22 11:04 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace a marriage between Stephen Agen and Maria Steen, who had a daughter Annie, born 1835 plus/minus 2 years - they moved at some time to the USA, where my currentl research is taking place, however I am hopeful of the irish connection.  Annie's place of birth is stated as Tipperary,  any help would be gratefully accepted.  Thank- you Elizabeth.

If I read the marriage record correctly maiden name stated Annie Agen - that agrees with father's name Stephen Agen - then name of wife Annie Golden.  I haven't found when/where she was previously married, or when the family moved to the USA - her place of birth is given as Tipperary Ireland. This is next on my list.. I have to admit that I have only had a couple of journeys into american records with my family.  Regards Elizabeth  p.s. other statement no of wife's marriage - second.

Got slightly confused there - should be Irish history for Annie Golden, formerly Agen, daughter of Stephen Agen and Maria Steen.  Not sure how far I will get with Irish records as many were sent to Dublin and lost.     Elizabeth

Thank-you to Sandra and Shellyesq for your replies and information.  William was the youngest child of Thomas and Isabella Park.  I am now trying to find the death of wife no 1 as well as conducting a search of her 'scottish' history. You have both been a great help. Regards elizabeth

US Lookup Requests / Annie Golden b. Ireland 1835

From research I find that the above lady married a William Park in Manhattan, New York on the 6th September 1871.  She was the daughter of Stephen Agen and Maria Steen her estimated date of birth is 1835 in Tipperary Ireland. William remarries in 1885, again in Manhatton so I am assuming that Ann
died between 1871 and 1885.  Could anyone give me clues as to where to turn next - cannot seem to find a death., any help greatly appreciated.  Regards Elizabeth

I apologise for calling this a census and not a register, a slip of the pen I realise - thank you for your replies, I now understand.
