My grandfather, John Carbery of Wexford is believed to have been a sergeant-major in the Militia round about 1883. I will be grateful if someone can tell me where can I find more information about this force?  His wife was Elizabeth[nee Byrne or Whelan]. At this time they lived in 2 Michael St Wexford and had three children.  Any info will be gratefully accepted.
Thanks Ian

Help! 'peterj' gave me information about William Williams that he obtained from the 1891 census. I can't find the same information when i delve into the 1891 census. What am I doing wrong? I also can't find birth references for siblings when I search  North Wales BMD. Any help will be gratefully received.
Thanks, Ian

I am new to Rootschat and in browsing the site I came across this correspondence. I worked on several SA gold mines and have had some limited success in tracing relatives. I suggest that you contact the:
 Chamber of Mines
PO Box 61808
Marshalltown 2107
South Africa
tel: +27 11 498 7100
They have a cooperative records department and could fax you copies if relatives records of service for the period 1900+.
Good luck!
Ian
