Lancashire / Re: 1911 Fairground Off Bolton Rd, Pendlebury

Thanks for that Shaun, just when I thought it was sorted !
Pendlebury is not somewhere I have ever visited, so not being too far away, I think I had better go find it.

Thanks to all for the input.

Thank you BumbleB, point taken.  I have been checking the whereabouts of the rest of the family but none of them were in Pendlebury, so no help there.  However, when weighing in ShaunJ baptisms I think that is the clincher.

Thank you both for your input.  Much appreciated.

Hello BumbleB
Information/combination from 1911 Census as per copy attached  by ShaunJ and my gt grandmother's death certificate which showed - where died "In a van, Fairground, Pendlebury, Swinton."

Is there a problem?

That seemed the most likely but I couldn't find anything to prove it!!

Many thanks ShaunJ

Is anyone able to tell me exactly where on Bolton Rd, this fairground was likely to have been?

Thank you both for your responses.  That certainly confirms my ideas and I don't think I am going to get much further at the moment!

Westmeath / Mary DOOLAN born c. 1814
« on: Friday 19 February 21 11:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching Mary Doolan born c. 1814 and transported to Van Diemens Land in 1842 - I have the Australian records.  On arrival, she gave her native place as Westmeath and stated her “father Matthew at Mullingar.”  She also gave her brothers as Matthew, Edward and Patrick.

I have a baptism (RC)  transcript from findmypast showing Anne Mary Doolan  Baptised ? Mar 1815 at Mullingar, Mother Marcella Neill but the father’s name is blank.  With an English baptism, I would assume  illegitimacy but would this also apply in Ireland?

When transported, Mary Doolan stated that she had a previous conviction for ‘ leaving a child with father.’  The only thing I can imagine is that she was trying to get someone to admit paternity.
Has anyone any other ideas on this one please?

South Africa / Victor Emanuel Sharp
« on: Saturday 19 December 20 10:06 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for Victor Emanuel Sharp on behalf of an elderly relative.

She knows he and his wife Sarah, once lived in Ogden Street, Castleton, Rochdale, Lancashire prior to their emigration to South Africa.  Unfortunately, she has no idea of the area in S.A. that they moved to.  From memory she thinks it may have been just before WW11 and they had 3 children at the time - including Lesley/Leslie and William.

My friend has grave papers belonging to Victor's parents or grandparents and would like to pass them to any descendant of his family.

He said he has sightings for her after she gained her pardon and the last instance was a conviction for being drunk, I think in 1831.  I am still awaiting info as to exactly where she fits into his tree and more to the point, how he proved it.

When I have the answers I will post again but he is away on holiday for a couple of weeks.
The marriage is interesting and possible and I have passed this on - with a suggestion he joins Rootschat!!

Many thanks for your interest.
