The Lighter Side / Re: Wesleyballs or wesselbobs

Hello again Mike. I was born in 1944 & my parents moved to Mirfield when I was about 2, I don't remember the move though :) I went to school in Mirfield, but if you want more detail I would be more than happy to provide it through my wife rosebud 2's email address. James.

Hello Mike. I too grew up in Mirfield & lived there for 38 years before migrating to Australia. I knew them as Wesleybobs, balls you hang on the Christmas tree. (James) Rosebud OH

The Common Room / Re: Adoptee's birth certificate?
« on: Thursday 18 June 09 06:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi
My widowed mother remarried in 1953 then both her (because she had a different surname to us now)and our stepfather adopted my brother and I in 1955. I have the certificate from the adoption, then in 1990 I applied for and got my original birth certificate, on the righthand side they have written Adopted and the Supt Registrar name. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much Sylvia, Bill & Dave they look great, at least the photo is clearer now. Still not sure if it is a boy or girl.

Is this a boy or girl? it says Harry Brome(my stepgrandfather) on the back but I am not sure if it is him or not, he was born in 1886 in Hackney. How old would you say the child is?  ???
Thank you.

« on: Monday 30 June 08 03:39 BST (UK)  »
can anybody tell me the best way to keep these postcards I have 2 from WW1 they are embroidered would they be ok in a photo frame? my mother had them in with her photos and they have gotten a bit grubby, the first one is my great uncle who died at Gommecourt France the second one I am not sure could be my ggrandmothers nephew. Can anyone tell me what regiment the second card is.

Thanks Margaret
