Aberdeenshire / Re: Marr-Reid Marriage 1894
« on: Thursday 17 October 13 20:54 BST (UK)  »
..... and the reason is they were married in 1884 - not 94.   :)

Dowloaded the birth entry which gives the marriage details.

So, hopefully someone can look for the 1891 and 1901 census which should have them on it with possibly other children.

Please pm me with an e-mail address and I'll forward the birth entry.

Regards,

Steve

Another big thank you Jacquie...  not only have you tidied up the Euphemia end of my  search for me. (and thanks for the census link).  Her half brother William is also mentioned in their mothers 7 page will.  (Mother left just over £3000.00 - a not untidy sum for those days).

So it appears that Euphemia remained single - had a long life and seems to have spent it all in a nursing capacity.  (I hope she had a happy life).

Thanks for the pointer re my defunct e-mail address which I rectified last night on logging on.

Now shall follow up on William- although the only info I have is him living in Edinburgh.  At least I can start looking as I thought he might be deceased.

Take care.  Your help has been much appreciated.

Regards,  Steve    :)

Canada Lookup Request / Euphemia Bowden - died 28 Sep 1955
« on: Tuesday 15 October 13 21:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello

It's been some time since I've been on Rootschat, but I wonder if someone can help.

I came across a reference on another site that the half sister (Euphemia Bowden) of a distant relative, died on the 28th Sept 1955 in Victoria, British Columbia.

I've tried to contact the person who posted this, but they appear to have no other info.

Euphemia was born on the 7th of Feb 1868 in Knockando, Moray, Scotland to William Bowden and Jessie Isabella Cumming.

Following Williams Bowdens early death, Jessie married a William Colville McDonald who was tragically drowned.  The second marriage produced a son William.

I've included a link below to the last sightings of both William and Euphemia.

Any information on either would be greatly appreciated.

I don't expect anyone to go to any expense, as I can afford to source the required documentation if pointed in the right direction.

Thanks very much for reading and any help you can give.     Regards,  Steve  :)

Roxburghshire / Re: Extract from Death Certificate
« on: Sunday 13 January 13 14:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hello and welcome to RC.  It simply means that there's another piece of paper you can download called a Register of Corrected Entries. (RCE).  If you've downloaded the death entry - go back onto SP and you'll see a tab marked RCE next to the entry you downloaded - it'll cost a couple of more credits.  Regards,  Steve

Unfortunately the new layout looks a bit 'The only was is Essex'.     A triumph of style over substance.  The previous offering which was/s greatly appreciated was very clear in line.

Why fix something that wasn't broken....

Have been posting less frequently for some time now, so shall take this opportunity to thank those that have helped me when searching.  This will be my last post.

Have a very Merry Christmas and may you all have a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Stirlingshire / Re: John Main/ Christian Main
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 22:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Jim

To enable others to help you you'll have to tell us how you settled upon the couple married in 1819 - I take it you're descended from Thomas?  Do you have the death entries for either John Main or Christian M

On the ppv govt website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there are only 12 Christian Mains who die in all of Scotland after the start of national registration in 1855.

There is only one who dies in Stilrlingshire and she dies in Slamannan in 1867 aged 63.  This would have her born in abt 1803/4 which would have had her as a young bride - if it were her in 1819.  You'd be able to pick her up the the '41, 51, 61 census.  here death entry should give both parents names if the informant knew them.

MMhhhh...   maybe not - just had a look on Freecen and it shows only 1 Christian Main on the '41 in the correct age range - she is in Slamannan, but with a Robert Main and a family of children

Good luck.

Regards,   Steve

All of Scotland 1881 to 2009 there is only one Jessie Ditchburn death.

Jessie Watson Ditchburn aged 14 months - daughter of Robert Ditchburn (Engineer Journeyman) and Janet Ditchburn (M.S. Thomson) died on 13th April 1882 at 29 Bellville Street, Greenock, following Chronic Pneumonia for 3 weeks.

Informant was David Ditchburn - Grandfather.

It is a good quality copy and has been sent to your e-mail account Brenda.
