Hi Carole

I am researching the Dobbins family on behalf of a friend, and would confirm that Hiram Dobbins was at Aberlour orphanage with his brother, James.

I wonder if you know anything of their mother, Lizzie?

Regards
Lesley

I wonder if anyone can help with the immigration of James Dobbins? He was born in Jamaica and came to the UK before 1910.  I understand that he landed in Liverpool and was certainly in Scotland by 1910.

With thanks for any information.

Thank you Monica, Steve and Sancti

I do have copies of Hiram's birth certificate and James and Janes's marriage certificate, but really wanted to confirm where James was born.  It was thought to be Jamaica but, as West Indies is indicated on the census, that is not necessarily so.  I have tried researching James Dobbins in Jamaica but to no avail I'm afraid.  Perhaps I should try islands!!

My thanks and regards

Scotland / Hiram Dobbins 1911 census

Hi

I wonder if anyone with access to the 1911 census could help me with Hiram Dobbins, born illegitimately in 1910 in Greenock to Jane Johnston and James Dobbins.

I am particularly interested to find the place of birth of James Dobbins, who was in fact a seaman and could indeed have been at sea at the time!

Any information would be most gratefully received.

With thanks

Lesley

Hi Ken

I have photocopies of the Return of Non-Commissioned Officers, Drummers &c and Privates of the 4th Regiment etc etc from Kew, but must apologise for a typing error, it should read "James Bright Deserted from Scutari 7 June".

Why would the Crimea medal roll mention "46th Regiment"?  Do you know whether this would have been reported in the Police Gazette?

I am very grateful for your interest and help.

Hello

I understand that there is information in the Police Gazette concerning army deserters.  I am researching Private James Bright (no 2087) of the 4th Foot Regiment who fought in the Crimea war and deserted from Scutari on 17 June 1855.  I wonder if anyone can steer me in the right direction?

Many thanks
Lesley
