If you are still looking for George Robertson Percy, I know of him and have some photographs with his family.  He does look like your uncles photo (his brother).  He remarried in 1913 to my grandfathers aunt Mary McGowan.  They did live at Aldermanhill.  He had three sons who were raised by my aunt, George, Walter and Tom.  Two brothers had a very successful electronics store in Dumfries (Percy Bros.).  The McGowans have kept in touch with the Percy's.  I know that George Jr.'s daughter-in-law still lives in Kippford.  I met Walter Percy and his second wife (Alice) in Maxwelltown in 1978 when I was visiting from Canada.

I believe the reason there is some confusion in this family line is that there are three Andrew Pierces.    F. Andrew Pierce was born about 1800, and was married to Mary Creighton/Crichton.  Their sons were George, John, and Douglas.  We all appear to come from this line.  F. Andrew Pierce's father was George Pierce (b. abt 1778), whose father was Andrew Pierce (b. abt. 1735).  This Andrew's wife was Jane Irving ( b. 1736).  The grave markers spoken of were for this Jane Irving and her father-in-law, Andrew Pierce (b. 1702).  This means we have a third Andrew Pierce, who was the father of one Andrew, and the  great grandfather of F. Andrew.  This is mostly a theory based on the birth dates, but it explains a lot of our confusion.

This George Robertson Percy, who died in 1957 is my great uncle.  His brother, James, was adopted out and became know as James Jones, in the United States.  It is exciting to know that some of his decendents might live in your neighborhood.  I thank you for all that you are doing, and am always interested in any further family data.

I believe that this would be the son of our Walter Currie Percy, born in 1911.

My grandfather, James Percy, had always said that he had many relatives in Dumfries, but never got to go back after coming to the United States at the age of 13.  My mother is still alive, and any information I can get her about her uncles and cousins will be a joy to her, I know.  I know that some of both the Percys and Moffatts come from Annan, and a one time these Percys even live in Maxwell Town.

This is new to me, but it could be that George Robertson Percy was married twice.  I believe that he named his son George Robertson Percy, and his grandson was also George Robertson Percy.  The military records could be very helpful.  Do you know how to get them?

I believe you to be right.  I have a George Percy (b. 1858) married to Mary Ann Moffatt, who had three sons (George Robertson Percy, Walter Currie Percy, and James Moffat Percy).  James was born at was born at 109 High Street, Dumfries, in 1887.  This George had a father George (b. 1824), married to Elizabeth Currie.

Thank you.  This helps.  I believe the George  Robertson that was 78 in 1957 was probably my great uncle, and the George Robertson Percy born in 1948 might have been his grandson.  I continue to look for deaths, marraiges, and children of  George and Walter.
