Limerick / Re: Glin, Limerick Baptism
« on: Wednesday 22 June 11 09:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi Olwyn,
It is frustrating to come to the dead end road. I am also there with my ancestor John Kearney. I know he was born in Glin, and that is all. Keep looking! Post your family tree on Roots Web and perhaps another Lynch will pop up and connections can be made. Google Glin, Kilfergus and images will show up, and you still might be able to find a Griffith Valuation or a tithe record too.

This website has the best resource for Griffith's: You can put in the family name, townland, and or just the parish to see how many Lynch families there were in Kilfergus at the time of the Griffith's Valuation.

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

As for Tithe records, I found the following on Ancestry.

Jame Lynch Killeanymore, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Jams Lynch Ballinagard, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Jimy Lynch Cahard, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Jno Lynch Ballinagard, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
John Lynch Ballygiltinan, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Mev Lynch Lower Ballygiltenan, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Michl Lynch Ballygiltenan, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Pat Lynch Lower Ballygiltenan, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830
Timothy Lynch Ballydonoghue, Kilfergus, Limerick 1830

Below is a great link explaining what a Tithe record is:

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Good luck, Liz

Hello,

Glin is in Kilfergus parish, but Catholic Baptism and marriage records were not recorded until 1851. Church of Ireland started in 1812. I found this information at

http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/

So therefor, the likely hood of finding Margaret Lynch's baptism is not so great, but you might find a death record if she died in Limerick. If she immigrated, you might find a naturalization record in the US. Or you might find  a ships list with her actual immigration date.

If you want to find other parishes and townland in Ireland, I would look at http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/.

Please let me know if I can help in any way.
Good luck, Liz

Hi Friends,

Anyone out there with Kearney family in Glin, Kilfergus dating back to the early 1800's? I would love to hear from you.

Researching John Kearney, born @ 1819, Married Mary Scanlon and immigrated to St John New Brunswick in 1842. Settled in Yarmouth Maine about 1847.

I have posted here before, but thought that I would re-post in the hopes that there are some new people online looking for the Kearney family.

Thank you! Liz

Clackmannanshire / Andrew Kelly Welsh, Annie Fraser

Hello,
Looking for parents of Andrew Kelly Welsh. Born in Alva or Alloa. I am guessing that he was born between 1880 and 1888. I base this only on the year that his son was born. Not very scientific, or all that accurate. I did find an Andrew Welsh in the 1881 Scottish census. He was born in 1876. His parents are listed as John Welsh and Kate Welsh. The census location was Alva, Stirlingshire. The address given on the census is 120 Brook Street. I really have no way of knowing if this is the right family.

Andrew married Jessie Fraser. Jessie I think was born in Alva, in about 1885. I found family with the parents names of James Fraser and Helen. They had 6 children born between the years of 1869 to 1885.

Jessie Fraser and Andrew Kelly Welsh had one child that I know of. He was Andrew Kelly Welsh, born about 1913 and died in 1995. He married Annie McGuckin who was born in 1918 and died in 2006. Annie McGuckin was the daughter of James McGuckin and Annie McGrellis.

Thank you for any ideas or suggestions in how to find out more about these families.

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know where I could buy a copy of the West Limerick Families Abroad by Kate Press and Valerie Thompson? I am researching my Kearney and Scanlon families that were living in the Civil Parish Kilfergus/Glin, Limerick area. My 3x great grandfather was John Kearney and his wife was Mary Scanlon.

Thank you for your help! Happy summer!

Limerick / two Glins in Limerick?
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 20:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,

I was under the impression that there was only one Glin located in Kilfergus parish home of the famous Knights of Glin....but now I have learned that there was one other Glin, still in Limerick, but that the name has changed. Does anyone know of this Glin and where it may be located?

I have found Glin North and South in Kerry...but that does not seem likely. I found a Glen in Grean Civil Parish in Limerick and a Glen in Cahernarry CP also in County Limerick.

I also found an area in Ballyneety, Clanwilliam Barony called lands of Glyn.

The reason I ask is because my 3x great grandfather John Kearney was born in 1806 in Glynn, Limerick. I found this information from his declaration of citizenship from 1847 in Portland Maine, USA.

I always thought he was from Glin, Kilfergus, Limerick...any help welcomed.

Regards, Liz, Yarmouth Maine
