Did you get any further with finding out about Nicholas Hixson? He was my Gr x 3 Grandfather . I have been trying to find out about him for many years, but nothing definite before his marriage in 1802 in Swansea. Someone said he was a smuggler as were later family members! The Dorset idea does seem a possibility. although our family myth is he was a sailor from the North of England.

World War One / Er Lee Royal Field Artillery "X" 31st Trench Mortar Bty

My husbands Great Uncle Er Lee from Ashton Under Lyne , Lancshire was killed on 31st October 1918. His mother received the telegram on Armistice day .  As by that time she was widowed, had lost a son as a young child and just had one older married son, she was alone.

We have found he is buried in Vichte Cemetery, Belgium (CWG records) . We are planning to visit the grave.

Where can we find out more about what happenend to him?. The records say he was in  Royal Field Artillery    "X" 31st Trench Mortar Bty and was a Gunner.

Thank you

Census and Resource Discussion / Publishing 1911 census pages in local history book?
« on: Friday 07 November 14 15:19 GMT (UK)  »
I have been researching the people who lived in my street in 1911 , where they came from and what happened to them. I would like to pull the information together into a local history book. It would clearly be good if I could include a copy of the census pages for each family as a starting point. What is the restrictions on this? Is it possible? I am unclear from the regulations. Has anyone done this ?

Thanks

Census and Resource Discussion / Using census in community local history book
« on: Wednesday 13 August 14 22:01 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching the people living in our street in 1911 and where they came from and where possible what happened to them I realise there must be copyright issues on including a copy of the actual 1911 Census pages. Is it possible to get permission to print the pages to include in the local history book? It would be self published for the community. Anyone know the regulations or where I could find out?

Thanks

Thank you. That is very interesting . Court Road in Eltham is not far from Mottingham. It seems he must have moved to Bedford for the school . Two teachers writing to each other about their schools. Will research some more.
