You might also try the Library & Museum at Freemasons Hall in London. They have a website and an email to them quoting name of the mason and details of the lodge should elicit an answer.
I visited a few weeks ago after such an approach and was shown original documents etc from the Lodge of Industry at Swalwell of which my g.g.g.g.grandfather James Davison (1774-1851) was a life time member

Hello Peggy

As Peter says Davison is very common in the North East - I'm afraid I have no known links to your Jane.

Peter
Thanks for the list of newspapers.

Cheers
John

Durham / Newspaper Obits - DAVISON
« on: Tuesday 06 May 08 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I have had some good fortune with data from the Northumberland & Durham FHS which has identified my ggggg-grandfather:
George Davison of Blaydon - died April 1816 Swalwell and his son
James Davison of Swalwell - died 23rd April 1851 at Swalwell and buried at Whickham.
Would anyone know if there was a local newspaper which would have contained an obituary or funeral report on my ancestors.
Both were well respected community members.
George signed the application for a dissenting church meeting place in Swalwell in 1799.
James was a member of Crowleys Crew and had a headstone erected by fellow freemasons in appreciation of his character.
Many thanks

Thanks to all of you who replied.
As suggested I have refreshed my request and have now received a reply from the Chairman of NDFHS.
So hopefully this is now resolved.

Is anyone out there a member? I sent an e-mail a month ago to their shop with an enquiry about a publication in their catalogue but got no response.
I'd be interested in any views on this FHS.

I have found that my gggg-Grandfather James Davison b 1773 was a Freemason and member of the above Lodge.
Does anyone have any information on the history of the Lodge?

Well thats a possibility - if the top of the w & t are missing. There is a George Hall bap in 1792 at Bywell St Peter which is the parish for Newton Hall which nearly fits.
So many thanks - I'll try again with their children Jane (b circa 1820) and Thomas (b circa 1822) - George & Elizabeth might had other children but only these two are in evidence in the 1841 Census.

Not sure about Pellaw - last three letters look like urn to me - can't see a w myself.
Challenging it certainly is!
