Hi Migky,
I am after parents for John Joseph CURRAN & Mary Josephine MORAN
Hoping maybe theres is a headstone on their grave which they are listed.
Just a tad hard to go look myself from Aus...
I realise I dont have very much information to go on just wondered if I could get lucky but I have a horrible feeling James and Mary were both born in Dublin IRL.
Cheers

Heather is the person who owns the photo and the man is her relative.
She asked for help to identify the uniform on the Rootsweb Liverpool list.
A number of us are trying to help her identify it of which I am one as is the man who posted the picture on his website in order to help try to identify the uniform .
I already posted her original query along with the information about the man

Thanks all for the suggestions, it's not my photo, just trying to help Heather as are a few others.

Heres the original story plus comments:-

Does anyone recognise the following initals, please? FL

I have a photograph of my mother's cousin Thomas Jones taking on 4 June 1947. The family were from Heolgerrig Merthyr Tydfil.

Thomas has a large FL on his collar, a row of medal bars above his left breast pocket. There is a metal chain going into the pocket under the flap, it is attached to the second buttonhole which is opposite the top of the
pocket. It could have perhaps a whistle or watch attached to it. The buttons are fairly large and made of metal. There are two attached to lapels on each side of his shounders. Thomas wears a peak cap with FL in a metal
circle.
The photo does not show the other side of his collar.

Photograph taken by JEROME?

Does anyone have any ideas at all, please?

----------
Heather kindly sent me a copy of the picture, which I have posted at my website (after obscuring the face of course), in case anyone else is looking into it for her.

Because there are no heraldic devices or rank insignia anywhere on the uniform I am inclined to rule-out any branch of the military or civil government branches. It's clearly not Salvation Army, Scouts, Boy's Brigade etc. Thus, I think the inclusion of the medal ribbons is just in-keeping
with the practice of military veterans of the day. For instance, it was not uncommon for decorated retirees in the police service to wear their ribbons.

So I am leaning toward it being a corporate 'uniform', such as a some
 kind
of ferry line or railway line 'porter' type uniform. I don't imagine he was actually porter though!

This kind of uniform might live-on only in the
memory of a local.

-----------
It might be an early Prison Service uniform.

Perhaps contact Prison Service Museum based at the training College
Newbold Revel.
