Hi Brenda,
Any further information you could supply would be very much appreciated. I sent you a personal message but I don't think you will get it until you do another post.

Hi John, glad to make your acquaintance.

On checking back in my records I have John Bell marrying Sarah Boneham in 1876. I have 2 children for them......Agnes Jane 1877 & Emily Ida 1881. Sarah died in 1881.

I then have John marrying Emily Nicholson in 1887. I have only 2 children for them.....Edward John and Emily Ethel 1888. I have Edward John bell marrying Jean Edna Rudd and having a daughter Heather.

The Bonehams and Nicholsons were closely related to John's family. Johns younger sister Mary Jane married William Boneham (the brother of Sarah) and his youngest sister, Sarah Jane married married Edward Nicholson. We have Bonehams living near us who are descendants of these marriages.

Hope this is of some help.

On the subject of the ancestors of Thomas and Mary Ann (Gurnell) we visited Lincolnshire a couple of years ago and have copies of various marriage and baptism cert. It frustrates me a bit that some family trees on Ancestry.com are wrong and are just being coppied without checking the accuracy.

Australia / Re: Death of Thomas PETERS

Hi earlybird,

You may have already found out the information you are after, if not the following may help.

Elizabeth Peters (Harris) death cert. says that her father was John (a miner) and her mother was somebody White. It also says that she was born in Camborne in Cornwall. I have found a John Harris who married an Ann White and had son John Baptized in Camborne on 2nd Jan 1820. The only possabilty found of Elizabeths baptism is in Tywardreath Cornwall on the 24 Aug 1828. She is shown as the daughter of John (a miner) and Ann Harris.
Her birthdate may be from 1824 (death cert.) to 1826 (Marriage cert.).
There is a record of a John Harris b; 1819 arriving in South Australia on the  Houghly (the same boat as Elizabeth)  -occ Miner, Montecute married to Alice Smitham in Linskeard, Cornwall in the Jun 1/4 1845.
Montecute is where Elizabeth & her husband,Thomas Peters' first two sons were born.

The marriage cert. of John Harris and Alice Smithem says they were married in the Wesleyan Chapel in Liskeard, Cornwall on 17 May 1845. They were both resident at St Cleer at the time. Both their fathers (John Harris & Nicholas Smithem) were Miners. I think John Harris snr. may have died before 1841.

I hope this has been helpful.

Regards Ding.

Thank you all for your replies. I have just realized that I haven't put in my new email address.
I don't have very much info on Catherine. I was hoping that the inquests may give me an age. She is listed as deceased in 1906. I was thinking that the registration in Carlton may have been her but 21 years old in 1875 seems a bit young as she witnessed her sister's (Elizabeth Francis) wedding in Mount Gambier in Jan 1872. I think she was the child of Thomas Peters and his first wife Elizabeth Brown (married Cornwall 1843) and may have come out to SA with Thomas' sister and brother in law Catherine and Edmund Martin on the Sibella in 1848.
This incident I am hoping might help prove  that but as yet I haven't got an age for her.

Australia / Victorian /SA Court records PETERS
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 04:15 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that a female relative of mine, Catherine Peters of Dartmoor in Vic. was arrested in Mount Gambier on 16 Jul 1873 on a charge of being implicated in the murder of an illegitimate child. she was remanded to Dartmoor. On the 21 July she had the charges dismissed.

My question is how do I go about obtaining a copy of this file.

I have noticed that my Grandparents Richard Thomas Pawley and his wife Cibyl (West) have stated on the 1911 census that they had 8 children born alive and 7 were surviving. The children I know of are Lydia 1874, John James 1877, Richard Rutherford 1878, William West 1880, Joshua Medlin 1881, Cibyl Edith 1883 & Hubert Harrington 1889. All born in Glamorganshire.

I would like help in tracing the missing child.

Cheers

Hi Keith
Great to hear from another cousin. I found you in my records, and the programme says we are sixth cousins. Do I take it that you are a fellow Australian?
