Hi Sammy,
Sounds like you have looked at the military records pretty thoroughly. I did this with the Indian Records for Burns and his marriage. I haven't found confirmation of his death. I am a great grandson of Elizabeth Enderby/Coad nee Burns married John Coad. I agree we need to look at the Irish records if we are to get any further

I am also seeking info re Smyth and gainsford. Daughter Elizabeth m. burns in India and burns family moved to England.Elizabeth then moved with children to Australia, father William burns not in picture, presumed dead.

THANKS, I HAVE DONE THAT BUT AM IN PROCESS OF GETTING TRANSCRIPTS WITH INFO. AS MENTIONED NOTHING FORTHCOMING ON THOMAS' MARRIAGE CERT. PROCESS OF ELIMINATION WITH THE LEAST COST.

Thanks Ev and Joekar. I was on the right track. Now to see when they left for Australia and on what vessel.
I had the births of Thomas John and Peter and parents marriage from LDS site. It appears the three boys married in the Gunnedah area to three sisters in the 1880's.
I am researching for a friend who is a descendant of Thomas. It could be that the other children came and settled in a coastal region of NSW. Am following up on this.
Thomas' marriage records in NSW only give spouses names and no ages or birth places, or parents. Strange for NSW.

Researching John, Thomas and Peter Flett who settled in Gunnedah, NSW, Australia. Can't find an arrival date or parents. Have come across Nichol and Jean Flett with children of that name born in the 1840's, Harray.If there is a link would like information if any on the family. ???
