Anyone recall this Company with fond memories of their time there - or that of their friends and relations.  Thank you.  Frank.

Steve,

Sorry - forgot to answer your question re: the death of William Divorty.
This is a difficult one. William had two first cousin's both named William (Divorty) and born within a year or two of each other.

I have found burial references but have not been able to absolutely attribute any to my 2 x gt grandfather William. William Divorty & Margaret were living in George Street, Aberdeen ref: 1871 census.
By 1891 Margaret was a widow and had move down to London to live with her son Robert and his family.

Thanks for all the details you have found for me - I've now been able to update my genealogy database

Wow Sharon this is absolutely brilliant info.
Thank you so much for taking all this trouble to pass the details on to me.
It explains quite a lot about William Divorty & Margaret life together. I don't think I ever found the full detail of the 1851 census - so your new information is of great value to me.
William was my gt gt grandfather.

Thanks again
Chris

Can anyone help me please.
I am searching for the marriage of William Divorty to Margaret Allan.
William Divorty was born in 1818 in Kintore Aberdeenshire. Margaret Allan was born about 1812 in Udny Aberdeenshire. Their first child William was born in 1849 in the Mill of Keithhall, Aberdeenshire.
William snr was a Miller.

Any information about Margaret Allan would also be very welcome.
Thank you.

Hi Bob,

I can probably help you with a photo of Dave although I'm afraid he is not in uniform. I do have a Beckenham AFS Christmas card for 1939 - this was sent by Dave to my parents.

The books by Pat Manning are available on her website
http://pickpatspage.com/jenna-publishing  - I was originally in contact with Pat via email when I found her article in the NW Kent FHS magazine (Dec 2005).

Will be in touch direct via a PM

Hi Bob,

John Henry Maynard had been dreadfully wounded by shrapnel, he survived for another seven months, dying on 9 Nov 1941.
Richard Beacon, Stanley Richard Hudders and my uncle David (Dave) Chalmers were killed outright. Stanley Hudders is buried with Dave in the same grave in Beckenham Cemetery - plot no. H3 row 1. Dave & Stanley's grave is next to John (Jack) Maynard's.  Richard Beacon is buried in Sittingbourne (ref: Pat Manning).

There are also housing blocks named after the fireman casualties. Chalmers House is in Border Crescent, SE 26 and Hudders House is in Churchfield Road (ref. Beckenham's 30 Glorious Years 1935-65 by Pat Manning). The signs are circular, with a black background, gold lettering, an oak tree in the centre also picked out in gold - Pat Manning kindly emailed me a photograph of Dave's.
