Angus (Forfarshire) / Jane Wilson Melville Dundee
« on: Wednesday 30 November 16 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking information on the death of Jane Wilson, born abt 1823, Balmerino, Fife. Her husband was Andrew Melville, who was found drowned in Dundee docks in 1877.

When Jane's son, Thomas Melville married in 1889, Jane was deceased. I could not find her in the Dundee 1881 census, nor in a Scotlandspeople search, although their new site is still being updated.

You cycled from Perth to Dundee? :o
Very impressive. ....

I was in a cycling club, and the Dundee-Perth-Dundee run was a bit of a daudle. If you meant Dundee to Perth WA, then I would even have impressed myself! ;D

Very informative, thanks for that, Ruskie.  As a Dundee youth, (many many decades back!) I must have cycled past that area several times en route to Perth, returning home via the moors to the north. These days, I struggle walking down the drivestrip to my mailbox.  ;D

James Clark is on the 1841 census aged 70, living in Balledgarno village, north of Inchture, but no sign of him in the 1851 census, nor in OPR death records. I may do an online headstone search of the area in the new year.

Here's an extract showing the placename.
 Hope it comes out OK!
Twas Inchture Perthshire.  1809. They lived in various places around the parish

I successfully traced 1809 Inchture Parish baptisms for my wife's side of the tree, but the location of the family was a place I hadn't heard of before. Jottistown/Jottislown.
I've Googled the name, but with no luck. I've even tried a few old maps, with the same result

Could it perhaps have been the name of a long-gone farm?

I don't know if this source, (which indicates he was a Canadian soldier), is  part of your own research, or is someone else's, his Canadian Army records should be traceable, and may even contain a marriage record!

  Worth a try.

I have sent you a PM.

Thanks for the link, John, I'll give it a go.
I know from experience how convoluted a process it can be obtaining documents from federal and state sources in the US of A.
