Justin,
please find the answers between yours, l tried to change to italics but?
I can find next to nothing on a Rosianski/Rossiansky family in the UK? Do tell me more of what you know.
Jacob Rosianski - Pearl-Pauline Beerwald had six children Moses (Mark) Bertha Florence (born 1875) Joseph Rebekka Else Hanna.
Moses and Bertha ran away to England, Rebekka came to England to perfect her English and worked in Nottingham - Rebekka and Else worked as simultaneous translators at the early UN both died in Europe, Joseph perished at the hands of the Nazis, Hanna married an Artist and died in Europe, Bertha married Bernard Englander and had two children Morris and Minnie.
I would be very sceptical about assuming that Bertha Rosianski marred under the name of Betsy Rosenberg; the surnames are too dissimilar.
The Bradford register office sent me the marriage cert for this marriage, said it was correct, several other people have “assumed” this.?
A few more census searches indicate that the family moved to Birmingham, where a Barnett Englander died in 1906. Bertha and Minnie were later lodging in Birmingham; no sign of Morris/Maurice. Does this sound right?
This is correct, Bernard (Barnett) died at the age of 42 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Birmingham, Bertha remarried a Samuel Caplan, Morris ran away to sea, and later married in Birmingham, Minnie married in Birmingham.
This is probably a stupid question, but does your grandfather's marriage cert identify his father as tailor Bernard/Barnett? Also, where did your gf wed?
Morris’s marriage cert ( October 29 1914 Birmingham, leading seaman)gives his name as Maurice Barnett England, father Barnett England (deceased) Master Tailor.
Barnett was an Anglicised name used commonly by Eastern European men, whose Hebrew name was Baruch. Bernard (Bernhard) would have been common enough amongst German Jews in the mid to late 19th century.
Thanks for this Justin.
Rob.
