I have been told via another messsage board that Denbigh Street, Birkenhead  has been lost from the 1871 census. In fact the whole of an entire evaluation district (N0 6 ) is missing. Documents RG 10/3744 and RG 10/3745 have been checked  and the district is missing from them both. Schedules at the back of RG 10/3744 have been damaged and it is thought this is where the district information should have been. This damage occurred prior to filming by the National Archives and so is lost for good! One problem explained but where are the Chamney family in 1881 ? The search goes on!
Kind regards
Sues

I have just checked the IGI . Sadly all the information is the modern stuff I have already so I still need to find them in these missing censuses to help fill in the gaps.
Thanks again Sue

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Denbigh Street BIRKENHEAD in 1871 and 1881 census
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 00:10 BST (UK)  »
Does any one know which district of Birkenhead Denbigh Street was in for the 1871 and 1881 census. I have been unable to find my husband's CHAMNEY family. Mary Chamney was born at 8 Denbigh Street in  November 1870. She was the daughter of William Chamney, born Ulverston Lancs and Eliza Chamney (nee Herbert ) born Chester. They are not listed in the indexes of 1871 or 1881 census. It may be that the name was wrongly transcibed. I have found them in the 1861 and1851 census. Any help would be gratefully received
many thanks Sues

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for Ann BALE in the 1871 and 1881 census
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Pauline
She died in Russel Street no number given, her sister Ellen Hatchwell was the informant.Ellen was still living in Russell Street for the 1891 census  and at that time had Ann's granddaughter Alice   staying with her.  Ann was listed as a lace maker in 1861 census. As far as I can make out all Ann's other children, except for John, died in infancy I have found Emma b 1850 d1852 and James b1852  d1852  Her husband James died in 1852 as well It must have been a terrible time for her! She was not living with her son John in 1871 or 1881  -he is to be found in London. I am sure she will be some where in Sidmouth she probably is under another surname.
Many thanks Sue

Devon Lookup Requests / Looking for Ann BALE in the 1871 and 1881 census

Has any one seen ANN BALE( nee Hatchwell) in either the 1871 or 1881 census?. She was  born in Sidmouth c. 1829 and as far as I am aware lived in Sidmouth all her life. She was the wife of James Bale a sugar boiler/ confectioner.  She was listed in the 1861 census as Ann Bail  widow but I have been unable to find any record of her after this except for her death certificate in February 1891. Any help will be very gratefully received.

Many thanks for the census information.
I am not sure I will ever sort out this family . They do not appear in the IGI. They seem to have children who were never registered any where and then their names are different in each census.
Just a typical family I suppose. very much like  present day situations

Thank you again

According to information on Ann's marriage  Certificate her father was Thomas HATCHWELL but I can find no marriage record for Sarah to Thomas. She recorded as unmarried in the 1851 census but as a widow in the 1861 census.
There is a second HATCHWELL family listed who may also be related

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 census JOHN BALE
« on: Monday 24 October 05 14:40 BST (UK)  »
Thank you both so much. I have struggled with this family for years. Alice is one of my John Bale's daughters  and so it confirms the connection to the Hatchwells.
Sorry if I caused confusion with my request for 1861census. The details I gave were from the 1851 census. John Bale claimed in the 1881 census that he was born in Sidmouth and family stories also lead to Sidmouth. Many thanks for the replies so far it gives me a lot of new information. It looks as if the stories of John's father being a sea captain were perhaps fanciful. Perhaps her marriage to James Bale may give some clues Thank you again
