Ireland / Re: Trying to trace the Watson Family

In the case of the Conservative MP, the family tree on Ancestry has it right. Annesley Somerville's entry in Alumni Cantab says:
Somerville, Annesley Ashworth. Adm. sizar at TRINITY, June 13, 1876. S. of David Ashworth, of Ballincollig, Co. Cork. B. there, Nov. 16, 1858

There is some information about Drew Watson Annesley families here https://nickreddan.net/trees/Drew.pdf

Thanks chempat - no-one at the moment but you never know when someone will come along.

And thanks Trish. Hannah and Thomas only appear to have baptised 3 children - Sarah, Anne and John (or at least those are the only three who have found their way online) and no Mary.

Meanwhile, there were John and Elizabeth Jones baptising a large number of children in Bishops Stortford including a Mary, but no Sarah.

I have also found a reference to Sarah Jones, later Woodham, and Mary Jones witnessing two Flack family marriages in Thorley, which is just outside Bishops Stortford. The first marriage (John Jones to Mary Flack) is in 1763 so the Mary would be of an older generation. The second marriage (Elizabeth Flack to William Hawkes) is in 1783 and by then Sarah Jones was Sarah Woodham.

Hertfordshire / Jones family of Bishops Stortford

Is anyone here researching the Jones family of Bishops Stortford?

When my ggg grandparents Sarah Jones and William Death (pronounced Deeth) spinster and bachelor both of Bishops Stortford married in St Mary, Whitechapel, in 1792 the witnesses were William Woodham and George Starkins, who had married Sarah Jones and Mary Jones in 1770 and 1790 respectively.

My guess would be that Sarah Death and Mary Starkins were sisters and Sarah Woodham an aunt or possibly cousin. But I haven't been able to positively identify them before their marriages.

Anyone know anything about them?

I have some details about the descendants of William Woodham of Bishops Stortford born 1750 if anyone is interested in them.

Hello HUmfrey
Charles Humfrey (born 1772) was mayor of Cambridge when Queen Victoria was crowned in 1838 and there was a big Coronation dinner on Parker's Piece in Cambridge. Someone wrote a booklet about it in which Charles as mayor features in the preparations. If you google The Coronation Remembrancer it should take you a few entries down to google books and you can read it.

Apologies for missing the John and Catherine Simpson marriage and sending you off on a wild goose chase to Norfolk/Suffolk. Yes, there is an Isaac Skare and Mary Hitchinson marrying in Stapleford 1 October 1716 but I couldn't seen any more information.

I couldn't find either of these marriages in Cambridgeshire. Have you tried Norfolk/Suffolk? Soham isn't too far from the border.

I couldn't find a baptism for Robert Adcock 1699 in Linton. The first entry for an Adcock in Linton isn't until 1723.

Isn't hallmark's Jessie Sutherland the half-sister of John Sutherland (father of Jessie Sophia)? I seem to remember the names Broadfoot, Balfe, etc. from the will of James Sutherland, Lord Duffus.
