Hi

I live in the area and am interested in the history of the church here.  I have a copy of all  the old monumental inscriptions at Newlands and thought I would check to see if there was any Notmans buried there.

Hi

There is a headstone in the old Newlands churchyard erected by James Notman in memory of his mother Marion Thorburn who died 19.04.1827 aged 71 and his brother Walter Notman who died on 01.02.1824 aged 31.  Perhaps the brothers and mother of Janet.

Shetland / William Mather Hush

I am researching the men on the local Roll of Honour.  William Hush was born in Peeblesshire but at the time of his death in 1945 (age 23) he was resident in Shetland.  Any info gratefully received.

Hello Mack
Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I have the details for William Soutar - he is listed on the West Linton Roll of Honour. ( West Linton is about 3 miles from Newlands.)  There was a Book of Remembrance published in 1923 and I know that there is a copy in the Scottish Borders Archives.  I really need to make the time to do travel there and have a look at it.  The old local newspapers are there too so I should be able to come up with something.

Hi Terry

You could look at www.innerleithen.org.uk. It does not mention William Pearce but I am sure that if you sent a message they could give you at least the history of the company and possibly details of the Pearce family.  Good luck!
