England / Re: When did widower John Middleton remarry after wife's murder.
« on: Tuesday 14 July 15 03:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi Bookbbox
Perhaps I should have said my link to John second wife is not sufficient for me to order a death certificate on the off chance her maiden name is mentioned, unlike the New Zealand ones that have the decease's Parents names (if known) and place of burial.
My interest was seeing how long after Alice's death did John remarry. I am pleased for John that he did.
I may come back to the couple at a later date. This research line that started with me wanting to update the 12 children and their families of my 3xgreatgrand parents Thomas Parker Durrant & Elizabeth Cornwell has taken me from Sussex to Texas to Kenya and back enjoying every moment.

Thank you for the replies. First I too was confused with that marriage needing to take a second look (blast not them:too easy) and yes that is Gertrude's death in 1975. That new probate website is a god's send to gather more information and also to confirm many things specially from sitting way down here in NZ.
Had a play with the German... possibility within UK census using her birth date and then marriages but nothing found. No sign of John and Gertrude till the known deaths oh well.
If she was from Europe and/or they married out of the UK, there is probable little chance of solving this one. However I have enjoyed (though sad) story of cousin Alice Hilda from Horsham.  :)

England / When did widower John Middleton remarry after wife's murder.

John Middleton's wife Alice Hilda Middleton nee Durrant (my 2xgreatUncle's daughter) was murdered my Cecil Maltby in 1922 (official record has 1923 when her body was found). Finding a great deal of information on this I wanted to fellow John's progress after her murder. He died in 1943 and buried Southend-on-sea (Sutton Road). He had a career in the Merchant Navy and married a Gertrude Kathe. I can't find when/where they married not helped by not knowing Gertrude's maiden name. Any possible matches end as they all have my John Middleton with a middle named which this John did not have.
Any fellow ups would be appreciated.

After initiating this thread 29 Dec, I finally have one of my two wills available to "Down load Grant and Will" and it was easy peasy. Now all smiles I wait a lot more happier for the other one to be available.
Thank you for everyone's replies.
And a big thank you to Gov.uk (will send a thank you via their feed back once I get the other copy), for this new service specially for those here in NZ.

Yes StevieSteve, There is nothing to click onto to download and the only thing in the "download" column is the word "Never". I sent a feed back message to them and rec'd reply 3 Jan :saying "This is to acknowledge receipt of your message. If you have a query regarding placing an order or a placed order, we will endeavour to provide a response as soon as possible."
As yet nothing.  ::)
When I have ordered copies of Certificates it has only taken a max of ten days for them to come to New Zealand by post!

The Common Room / Uk Wills online has anyone ordered any?
« on: Monday 29 December 14 06:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone
I ordered two Wills back on the 15 Dec.  I got an email on  the 27 Dec saying my order has been delivered. I logged onto the site and in My Wills-2 items show and the details are what I ordered so I thought great.
However I can't work out how to download them Or do I have to wait for them to do something else. Their Help page says nothing about how to download.  ???
Help :)

Thanks Tracey

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: where is this church in England
« on: Monday 03 November 14 09:15 GMT (UK)  »
That's brilliant Kay, Thank you.
I took this when in 1991 I had a six weeks holiday and for 2 weeks travelled England solo by car, partly for family history reasons and I stopped for a short break and took this photo, not knowing where I was.
Thanks again
Tracey.

Does anyone recognize this church?

Tried photo image on Google, no luck.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you
Tracey
