Australia Resources & Offers / Re: Can take Pics in Melbourne

Yes I can. I have done so for others. I work different shifts during the week, so often able to get down there during mid week. I will need some info of what you want, specifically, if you have a garden name and number, as it is a very large area to cover. Regards, Richard.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage look up - Tonks, Dawley, Shrops
« on: Tuesday 26 March 13 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I know that this post is an old one, however, I just noticed it. Im clutching at straws here, however, my Elizabeth Allford married a John Tonks in Shropshire, specifically Malinslee. That wedding was in 1845. My Elizabeth had a sister Mary Ann Allford, I have much more information, not yet sorted and put into my Legacy package yet, but perhaps there is a link. Would love to discuss further. Richard.

Ireland / Re: McLaughlan/Haggerty
« on: Tuesday 26 March 13 22:29 GMT (UK)  »
I notice in the posts the different spelling of the Surname McLaughlan. I have been tracking my mothers side of the family for several years. Although interchangeable, they are often mis spelled and this leads to confusion and red herring trails for the family units. My Mclaughlans were from the Limavardy area of Ireland. The ancient tribe of McLaughlans were from the north west of Ireland and apparently were at there peak as a "tribe" around the 12th century, whereupon an internal family feud divided the families. Im happy to exchange info and dialogue on this family. Yes, they are hard to trace. :) Richard

One Name Studies: H to M / McLaughlans of Craigeuk and Wishaw
« on: Tuesday 26 March 13 22:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have been tracking the McLaughlans of Craigneuk and Wishaw for several years. They lived in Wingate St, Craigneuk and also several streets in the Wishaw area. The family was originally from Limavardy, Ireland, emmigrating in the 1800's. I am looking towards exchanging information and photos of that and related families. Kindest Regards, Richard Hallford.

One Name Studies: H to M / Hallfords of Craigneuk and Wishaw

I have been tracking the Hallfords of Craigneuk and Wishaw for several years. I know that they lived in Flaxmill Avenue (Craigneuk), Marshall St Wishaw, in the miners rows and the Pre Fabs in Alexander drive in Wishaw. I am interested in any contact with others of the same or related family name with a view to exchange of information and in particular, photos. The Hallfords married the McLaughlans, also of Wishaw area and am keen to contact those family members also. Kindest Regards, Richard Hallford

Craigneuk St was known locally as the beehive brae.  Here is a picture of how it looked after WW1, note the cinema the tram lines horse and cart, alot different to how it looks now

Jane
You can see a tower in the picture, which is from Craigneuk Public School, which is still there to this day. (You can walk it at street level on Google maps).

An Aerial photo of Craigneuk St, (Wishaw out of picture on the left). In the distance, at the bend, there is the Zookie (Bazookie) (Rio) Cinema. You have to zoom in to see it properly.
Road going across screen at very bottom possibly Flaxmill Avenue. Road on right hand side Meadowhead road. Picture taken circa 1945. Note prefabs on Meadowhead road. Road in centre of picture Charles Street??? Enjoy.
Could that be St Patricks Church in Shieldmuir rd about centre left?

Any idea what church that is in the background, just so I can get a bearing? Tks in advance.
PS, attached is a photo of the Rio Picture House (The Bazookie) from another site. Cinema at left hand side. Anyone know the building on the Right Hand Side? This is Craigneuk St, I believe looking towards Motherwell. Any info would be helpful.
