That's marvellous, Sinann neer noticed Crosskeys or Antrim Workhouse- I also note on the far right hand side that he was illegitimate! So not likely to be an actual marriage. I'm going to trawl through these records to see if they had anymore children.

Thanks, so much!

Yes,

Twins, William and John were baptised in Ballymena Workhouse (27 May 1871), and George was baptised in Randalstown on 8jul 1859- but I can't make out the downland of residence.

Tricky folks, aren't they.

I suspected so, I was hoping I could find a Clarke/Letters marriage. But I can't find that either. Off to Proni I'll go in the year!

Sinann, They did indeed and besides Thomas, they also had:

George b abt 1859/60
Robert b. abt 1865
William b. 1871
John b. 1871 (twin of William)

So, i'm guessing they married 1859 or before...mind you, you never know, but I can't find anything later.

Antrim / George Cushley/Cushnahan and Sarah Clarke marriage
« on: Tuesday 02 January 18 21:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Bit of a confusing one! I'm looking for a marriage of George Cushley (AKA Cushnahan) and Sarah Clarke (AKA Letters), which may have taken place in the Ballymena, Ahoghill, Randalstown area.

This was, I believe a 'mixed' marriage. They baptised their children RC but when they moved to Belfast they became CoI. That's when the name switched from Cushnahan to Cushley.

I do believe Sarah Letters/Clarke was from Ahoghill.

Thanks

Thanks KingsKerswell, I didn't know that. The message seemed to go through OK at the time. Will Ballymoney be able to view my personal message when he responds a couple of times or will I have to resend?

Either way Ballymoney, over to you!

Hello Ballymoney,

Great to hear from you! Yes, I believe I have found Robert Dunlop's death in Ballymoney Workhouse on 9th January 1897. While the family was by no means wealthy, I have a feeling that Robert died in the workhouse, not through destitution, but because Workhouses had an infirmary attached where he could get free medical care-no NHS in them days! Indeed many established hospitals are built on the site of the orginal workhouses. This death entry I found through a process of elimination based on Aghadowey's burial findings of various Robert Dunlop's in Finvoy, described above, and reconciling them with the GRO death indexes on FamilySearch. This is strengthened by finding his wife Susanna Dunlop (nee Smylie) described as a widow on the 1901 census.

I would very much like to share information with you, as Robert and Susanna are my 3x great grandparents as well. I will attempt to send you a personal message containing my personal email address (not allowed here due to privacy rules).

Look forward to hearing from you.

Simon.

Dublin / Re: Dublin 1850 Directory Look Up

Thanks dublin1850,

That's interesting that so many people were victuallers in such a small area. I had to look up that there is a difference between a victualler and a licsenced victualler. I think patrick had a shop which dealt with meat and dairy. The Murrays were closely related to a Masterson family in the same street who were butchers. All were buried in Glasnevin and the younger generation had moved to other streets by the 1860's.
