Technical Help / Re: Images not copied over from old to new laptop on PAF
« on: Thursday 02 March 17 16:15 GMT (UK)  »
I've been off line for 2 or 3 weeks so sorry not to have thanked everyone for helpful advice especially latterly xinia and erato. I think I'm getting there but it's frustrating when images you know perfectly well  are somewhere in the system don't pop up !
Thanks
David

Rosy and Xinia, I appreciate your efforts and although it may be comprehensible, the images links are just not opening although if I look in my picture files, the individual images are there.
I'm just resigned to re-doing it manually - unfortunately, Queensland is a long way for me to come for a 1 to 1 tutorial ! And the last time I was there, my wife and I got "bogged" in a creek south of Cook Town !
thanks again
David

Thanks Rosy, I've just tried that and no images despite ticking the relevant box . Either I'm dim or the original programme just won't export images any more.  >:(

Many  thanks Xinia , I think I'll have to take up your suggestion of sitting next to you ! I've tried every way I know to find the "image file" in the original PAF but nothing comes up.
Nothing for it I think but to create a saved file of all the missing images to install on the "new" copy on the new laptop.
Having done that, I think I must then put everything onto a new FH programme before anything else is lost !

Many thanks to Ray, Rosy and Guy. I'll set to and try the suggestions about reuniting the images with the individuals. I suppose in retrospect, I should have done the transfer myself !

Many thanks Rosy, that could well be the answer. I shan't leave it to the techie guru next time.

I was aware that support was not available  - it seems odd in that case  that that all the text from the original copy has been transferred to a Windows 10 machine despite the message from Family Search.
I have a seved version on an external hard drive - would that install the missing images ?

Technical Help / Images not copied over from old to new laptop on PAF
« on: Sunday 05 February 17 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently bought a new laptop and asked my computer techies to copy the PAF, version 5 family history from the old to the new machine. All appeared to be well until I found that "multimedia" , ie photos , had not been copied although the titles of the images were there. My previous laptop ran Windows 7 and the new one Windows 10. Would that be part of the problem ?
Is there any way to restore the images without the labour of doing it all by hand  ?

I shall need a new project for the Spring  !

The Common Room / Re: " Occupier dead " on 1901 census return

Thanks Stan, that gives a useful slant on how the census was undertaken. I imagine though that it could have resulted in some people being counted more than once. My paternal grandfather appears twice in the 1891 census in two places about 40 miles from each other.
