World War Two / Re: Siege of Malta?

Hi Stephee,

I've not got any further as yet - I've got the relevent service record forms signed now though, so I'm hoping that at least some additional information will come through when I get those back.

Having talked to mum, she thinks that Lancashire, Notts or Stafford are the likely counties he could have served with, and I see that Lancashire is on the list above, but I'm not counting any chickens just yet!

There's a place called Morville, near Bridgnorth, could it be that?

There's a report on the bbc website that they've been having a massive spam attack since Tuesday - it's here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7663982.stm

Hi Polarbear,

Thanks for that - a good reminder!  My local library is closed till the end of the month for getting a new roof, but there's a couple of others nearby I could visit and find out.

Cheers,

Cate.

Ah, thanks for that - I'll go and have another look at automatedgenealogy then, I assumed I could only get the transcript from the site as there didn't seem to be any obvious way of getting the image.

My Maurice was from the Tewkesbury/Forthampton area of Gloucestershire - he was in the workhouse in Tewkesbury in 1891 and I'm trying to work out if this one that pops up in Canada could be the same man.  I was told he went/was taken to the US, but I don't know when

The Ancestry info, is it from the .com site?  I only have a sub for the .co.uk, so it might be time to upgrade my membership, or at least try and find a free trial on it for a couple of weeks!  ;D

Canada / Original images of 1911 census?
« on: Friday 10 October 08 22:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to track down a g.g.uncle, and someone found a possible match for him in the 1911 Canadian census.  Can someone tell me if it's possible to see the original images from this census anywhere online, and what if any extra information they might contain?

The chap I'm looking for is Maurice Sutton, and the reference is 1911 / Ontario / Toronto East / 32 Toronto / page 7, I've seen the info on automatedimages so far.

Also, I believe he would have emigrated in or around 1896 (his mother reported his disappearance to the local police), but how can I go about finding out whether this is the case?  Ship's passenger lists?  He was in the workhouse in 1891 aged 7, so I don't know how likely it was that he'd have been able to pay his fare to emigrate.

Finally, is it possible to find out more about Robert Sutton, the 1911 Maurice's son?  EG would his birth cert (assuming it's Canadian) give father's birthplace/nationality etc?

Any help gratefully received!

Cate.

There's an Elizabeth Dowding, 55, wife of James Dowding, 58, plus a George Dowding, 30, living in Clapham.  James is a bricklayer's labourer, George is a bootmaker's assistant.

(RG10/698; Folio: 84; Page: 19;).  Is that likely to be the one you're after?

There's also an Elizabeth Dowding, wife of Thomas, living in Brighton of the right age, plus one (with middle initial A) in Whippingham, Hampshire also wife of a Thomas.

HTH!

Have you seen this site? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wrag44/index.htm It has lots of Parish Register transcripts for different areas of Gloucester/shire.

Good luck!

Cate.
