Limerick / Re: Liston family Caherelly & Lisnagry
« on: Sunday 27 July 14 02:01 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rachel

So far I have only been researching the actual family of my grandmother. They seem to be separate from the Listons in Glin but could be related further back. What I put in my post earlier is all I have found as yet.
My Catherine Liston was born !9 Aug 1870 in Caherelly, Parish/District of Caherconlish, to Michael Liston and Catherine Bennett and  married Philip Burns, 7 Feb 1892 at the R.C. church in Castleconnell. She was witness at the death of her mother in 1898 in Mountshannon.

Michael Liston was a herdsman or caretaker in Caherelly when he married in 1858.
If I come across any connection to the Listons in Glin I'll be pleased to let you know.

Marie

Hello Gaffy
Thank you so much for the records you posted. I haven't been into Familysearch much for a while.
I obtained a copy of Mortimer's marriage from Rootsireland. It is the right one. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Marie

It may be that Martin and Mortimer are the same person.

I thought that maybe someone out there may be doing research into the Listons from Limerick Co. and have come across this family, or even be related.

Thanks to a friend in Chicago, I now have  lots of info on my grandfather's Fitzgibbon side of the family, so I'm turning my attention to the Listons.

Thanks for your quick reply

Limerick / Liston family Caherelly & Lisnagry
« on: Saturday 28 June 14 06:28 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the family of Michael Liston and Catherine Bennett. They lived at Caherelly until about 1870s then moved to Lisnagry. They were married 14 Feb 1858 in Caherelly.  They had lots of children, my Grandmother Maria (Mary Ellen) was the youngest, born 1876. I have records of the births of most of the children but don't know how to find who the daughters married and when any of them died or migrated etc.
I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this family.

Thank you, Marie (from Australia)

Thanks very much for your reply.

I was hoping that there might be some way that I could find out if he's the right bloke without paying all that money for a certificate just to get a clue. I guess I'll probably have to eventually.

The William McCarthy that I'm interested in was born 5 Jul 1907 in Lisnagry and in the 1911 census, I think I found him living with his father's parents William and Catherine McCarthy in Lisnagry Co. Limerick. His father just vanished and his mother (my grandmother) came to Australia in 1915, died 1930. She is my father's mother. It's just an interesting mystery.

Thanks again for your trouble.

Marie

Limerick / William McCarthy

A William McCarthy died Jul - Sep 1925 in Limerick aged 18. I found this information on FamilySearch.
i would like to find out his parent's names because if they are Mary Ellen Liston and John McCarthy it would solve a family mystery. It was always thought that he migrated to USA with his father but I think he may have stayed in Limerick.
I'm not sure that the death certificate would show the info I need. I'm hoping that someone might point me in the right direction.

Hi Flemmo

Thanks for your info. It would be great if you and your Flemings were relatives.
I haven't found out much more, but this is a little bit extra.

William and Ellen Fleming's marriage on 25 Jan. 1868. He was 32 and she was 26. The witnesses were Timothy Fleming and Margaret McNamara. Roman Catholic Chapel of Boher.

David Fitzgibbon was baptised 10 August 1878 at Mongfune Parish/District Murroe & Boher.

I hope you have lots of luck with your visit to Limerick. Please let us know how you get on.

Regards, Marie

Hello,

I would be very grateful for any information about relatives around Limerick or elsewhere.  My grandparents came to Australia from Limerick about 1915. They both died in 1930 leaving 2 sons as orphans.

My grandparents were:

David Fitzgibbon, born about 1880 in Murroe, Limerick. His parents were William Fitzgibbon and Ellen Fleming.

Mary Ellen Liston, born about 1878 in Athlucca, Limerick. Her parents were Michael Liston and Katherine Bennett.

It was Mary Ellen's second marriage. She was married to John McCarthy in 1907and had a son, William. They moved to America. She left her son there with his father and went back to Ireland, married David Fitzgibbon and migrated to Australia.

I think David Fitzgibbon was a game keeper in Ireland. They were both Catholic.

I have a copy of the registration of the marriage of David's parents, William Fitzgibbon and Ellen Fleming in 1868. Their  fathers were Mick? Fitzgibbon and John Fleming.

I would love to know more. Is anyone doing any research into these families?

Regards,

Marie, Australia.
