Travelling People / Re: ALBERT LOVERIDGE 1900-1988 Deptford
« on: Sunday 31 July 11 17:01 BST (UK)  »
This was the reply from Shirley regarding Thomas Loveridge who is buried at Grove Parks.

I am based at Hither Green Crematorium and we keep the burial records here, but all it will show is the name, age and date of death of Thomas and the plot where he was buried.  As it was a public grave no records are kept of memorials etc.  Colin, who is the supervisor at Grove Park Cemetery is on leave this week, but I will send him a copy of this email and ask him to see if he can locate the grave space and if he can whether or not there is a memorial buried under the grass. The crematorium phone number for burial information is 0208 314 9635.

I wil let you know if there is any progress,

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Ford Cemetry Liverpool

Thanks for your help, I hadnt seen the X section before.
This was my gg grandmother.
Her daughter my g grandmother is buried in AS section.
My g grandmother used to talk about her own grave for years before she died.
The idea that her own mother was in a public grave may well have had something to do with it.
Thanks again

I think i have just located another relative that is buried in Ford cemetry.

I have the date, name and plot, but having looked on a map of Ford cant see the area.

Its a Bridget Purcell, 6 July 1904 grave X317.

I wonder whether it was a public grave?

Any help woud be great.

Thanks

An update on Thomas Loveridge.

I had an email from Shirley at Hither Green Crematorium, they keep the burial records for Grove Park, she informed me that Thomas had been buried in a public grave.  That the memorials on these graves were given a 15 year permit from the time of burial.

At some time in the past, probably the 1960's, many of the memorials were laid on the ground and grassed over for ease of maintenance. In the past Shirley has been able to locate a stone and uncover it but doesn't know whether that would be possible in this case.  They wouldnt know whether a memorial had ever been place on the grave as there are no records of memorials on public graves.

The burial records are kept at Hither Green Crematorium.

My original email will be passed to the supervisor at Grove Park to see if he can locate the grave and if there is a grave stone under the grass.

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Ford Cemetery - Liverpool

I went in search of my grandmothers grave at Ford, this was about 4 years ago.
Outside (at the time) was a notice board with a phone number.  I think it is manned Mon-Fri.
I called them they gave me lots of information about the grave including the names of people I had no idea were buried alongside my nanny.
If you call them they may be able to advise when a groundsman or member of staff will be on the site.
My own nan was also buried in AS, it took us a while too, in parts there appeared to be a pattern but in others it was quite random.

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

I had been in touch with Lewisham Council before posting, they said they couldnt help. When researching another family member one call to Ford Cemetery in Liverpool opened up a huge amount of information, so I shall give LC another try.

Another funeral card mentions Brockley cememtery, I have contacted Friends of Brockley and Ladywell Cemeteries and hope they will be able to help me.

As far as I can see there is no such groups for Grove Park or Honor Oak cemeteries.

Ihave found the marriage banns of Emily Mary Ann Loveridge
She married Alfred Edward Hurst 28 September 1912
Her father is Adolphus (hawker)
Emily lived at 68 and Alfred at 70 Watergate St.
Their witness were George ?? Lynham and Ann Amelia Lynham

On the 1901 census George Lynham is a servant at 51 Hales Street, also living there are

Graveyards and Gravestones / Honor Oak Cemetery London area

I have posted on here about Grove Park Cemetery and would also like some information about Honor Oak Cemetery.

Having tried to find out about my husband's family for a few years, I am still no further on than his grandfather.
A relative has given me a few items and amongst them was a funeral card for a Henry Loveridge, this could be my husbands great uncle.
He died 28 January 1948 aged 57 years and was interred at Honor Oak Cemetery, the card doesnt give the grave number of plot.

Does anyone visit this cemetery that could possibly have a look for the grave or has seen the grave?

I would be especially interested to see if there is anyone else in the plot or the inscription on the headstone.

Thank you for reading my post,
