Yes, I did apply for his army records from the National Archives.  It cost me A$75, but they could not find his record, so it must be amongst those damaged during WW2.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Absent Voters List

Is anybody willing to check the Absent Voters List 1918 for me.   I live in Australia.  My grandfather, Albert Ernest James, lived at 262 Gorton Lane, Gorton, Lancashire when he enlisted in the RAMC for WW1 and returned to 11 Preston Street, Gorton after the war.   Is he on the Absent Voters List, and if so, what information does it give about him.  I have been unable to find any information about him at all except his medal card.  I do not know his unit, but he served in Mesopotamia in the RAMC.
With many thanks

1. Does anyone have access to information about Customs Officers in Gatehouse of Fleet between 1855 and 1875.  My ggg grandfather, John James was transferred from being Customs Officer in Wales and appointed Chief Customs Officer at Gatehouse.  According to the Census, the family lived at Customs House, 24-26 Fleet Street, Gatehouse.
2. At least two of their children are buried in the Parish Churchyard at Anwoth.  Jane Jones James d 14 Dec 1859 and Henry Thomas James d 2 January 1860.  Can anyone tell me whether there is a headstone there?

Many thanks,  from Cape Schanck, Australia   :)
