Many thanks for that marriage information. Did you get that via RootsIreland and if so are there any records for the baptism of John & Anne between 1897 & 1899 in Lattin?

Have you the marriage cert for Catherine and Patrick Kelly which should give her fathers name
http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/fc62ce6883043

Also ordered along with the 1897 birth of Anne Mohide. Will update the message when I get the certs.

What I'm really after is the Lattin parish records - do you know if/how these can be accessed beyond those available online or at the NLI?

I'm looking for the birth of a John Mohide and his sister Anne Mohide between about 1897 and 1899. They may have been twins. Their mother, Catherine Mohide may not have been married at the time of the birth of John and/or Anne. There is a civil record of the birth of an Anne Mohide in 1897 and I've ordered a copy to check whether it is the correct person. However, I've no trace whatsoever of John. John may have been baptised / registered under a different surname. He had the Mohide surname in later life when he moved to Liverpool - he died there in 1970. I understand that he served in the British Army in WW1 but can find no record.  I know that their mother Catherine Mohide married a Patrick Kelly a few years later in 1901, and they had another child Patrick in 1902, but I don't know if she had been married previously.

Anne became known as Annie Kelly (and married James Lynch in 1920). She shows up in the 1911 census living in Shronell with parents Patrick and Kate, and brother Pat. However, the census makes no mention of her brother John and says that Patrick and Kate had been married for 14 years - clearly wrong if they only married in 1901. Unless I have the wrong family but I don't believe I do.

I believe that all of these events happened within the parish of Lattin. However, the RC parish records for Lattin Baptisms & Marriages only seem to cover from late 1846 to about January 1882. Where do I go for their parish records after that date? Is it worth the relatively expensive price to check out RootsIreland to see if their parish records cover beyond that date for Lattin?

I'd really appreciate any light that can be thrown on any of the above.

Thanks,
Eric

You are very good Jill, many thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,

Eric

Many thanks Jill for the very speedy look up! James gave his age as 53 in the 1851 census and 62 in the 1861 census so it looks like a very good possibility.

I'm not sure that the John buried in 1783 was the father of James baptised in 1796  ;D

The 1861 census has James Sheppard Cooper aged 62 living next door to a Stephen Sheppard also a Cooper, aged 73 and also born in Barford, Wilts. - could I ask you to look up Stephen please as the similarity of occupation and place of birth perhaps points to there being related.

Many thanks,

Eric

Hi Jill,

I have a request please - I have a James Sheppard appearing in the 1851 and 1861 censuses who gives his place of birth as Barford in Wiltshire and his year of birth appears to be about 1798. I am trying to trace his baptism and parents please.

He was a Cooper by trade. I came across a Bastardy Examination in Barford dated 1790 where the defendant was named as a John Shepherd, occupation Cooper if that is of any use?

Many thanks,

Eric

Ireland / Re: Sauce and Hatchell families Ireland

Hi

Does anybody have any information on either the Sauce or Hatchell families who migrated from Ireland to England in the second half of the 19th century. I have some information on both families from the 1881/1901 censuses The Sauce family lived first in St Helens, moving later to Widnes and the Hatchell famiy lived in Liverpool for a time and then they also moved to Widnes.

I have other Irish ancestors but these two families both had quite unusual names (possibly not Irish) and I hope this may help me trace them.

Rosemarie.

I know it's an old thread but if Rosemarie can get in touch with me I have some information on the Hatchell family in Co. Wicklow & Dublin.
