Wiltshire / Re: INGRAM family of Preston, Lyneham
« on: Monday 18 November 13 19:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Neil,  I haven't been doing a great deal of family research lately, but have just received notification from Rootschat of your input.
My line from the Hulberts that I know of starts from William Hulbert my G/G/Grandfather, his daughter Ellen/Helen, was my G/Grandmother, she married David Ingram, their son George William Ingram was my Grandfather, his son Walter George Ingram was my father.
I know there were a lot of Hulbert children and I know there were several addresses in Cirencester, I did try to find 18 Sheep street but I believe that it went a long time ago to make way for a car park.
I would be interested to hear about your connection with the Hulberts and if there is any way we can assist each other.   Alan

Hi
My Great Grandfathers name was Henry William Green, married to Martha Raynor  and they lived at
no. 105 Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth.   Maybe there was a factory local that they worked in at that trade.

 :-\      ???

Hi Marlene,
I tried sending you a reply last week but my computer decided it wasn't having any of it and threw it out, so I will try again.

It seems that most of the Colbury/Longdown area was populated by Webb's, my wifes father, Edwin Webb, was b 1909 and his father was Walter Webb, b 1890ish which would have made him very young  when Edwin was born! his father was Allen J Webb, but in the 1891 census there was a son Allen W Webb 9mo,  did the "W" stand for Walter?  they lived at School House, Longdown.

In the 1881 census, Allen J, was living at Londown with wife Emma and at the same address was a Mary Webb and son Samuel, both Allen J (24) and Mary (67) were both classed as Head!

In the 1871 census, Mary was a 'Widow' living with son Samuel and 7 other Webb's at 'Staplewood Farm' Eling.

In 1861, Allen J (4) was living at Longdown, with father, Thomas Webb,  mother, Fanny and brother, James.

Also in 1861, Mary was living at Londown with husband Henry and son Samuel and two daughters, Ann and Betsy.

In 1851, Mary was living in Longdown with husband Henry and 12 children including 2 illegitimate.

In 1841, Mary and Henry are at Longdown with 6 other Webb's, 5 presumably thier children.

Lots of the names of the children appear in most of the census's and it does seem as though they are all related in some way or other.    I have traced a lot through   www.thegenealogist.co.uk will keep on searching though to verify.
All snow  gone here in Holbury,

Would anybody have any knowledge of the Mill Mead area of Guildford,  my father was in born in 1909 at
9 Wiblins Buildings, Mill Mead, Guildford, U.D.
I realise that many buildings in the area have succumbed to the two world wars but I have tried to find either photo's or plans of that area prior to ww1, to no avail.

My granddaughter is at Surrey University, Guildford and often goes down to Mill Mead by the river and she would also like to get a sense of where her Great Grandfather would have lived.

My G/Grandfather  although on my fathers birth certificate is marked as occupation, "scaffolder" later worked for the company-  'Dennis Brothers Ltd' in Guildford and I have tried to obtain information from the Company but they also no longer exist, they are now a separate firm under the name of  'Dennis Motors' and say they cannot help me.

Would be very greatfull for any help in expanding my research,

Alan

???
I have some photos of the street party for the             George & Mary jubilee 1910 - 1935, in what I believe to be Trigon Grove off Fentiman Rd, SW 8,   near the Oval Cricket Ground,  my mother lived at no. 4 Trigon Grove,  she was Beatrice Martha Green, there is also a rather dilapidated photo of the school class that my mother was in around 1923/25 ish.
Although Trigon Grove no longer exists and the school location I dont know (it must have been in close proximity) I wondered if there were anyone else with an interest in that location that would have had family members possibly in the pictures.

Wiltshire / employers and newspapers 1817 - 1840
« on: Monday 22 June 09 20:56 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find where to look for employment information on domestic servants of large manors, estates, or houses,  c1817/18.   Even newspapers of that period   all around Salisbury, Coombe Bissett, West Harnham, Wiltshire area.
A Mary Kite was a servant and had a bastard child by a Thomas Kimber, she did not marry him and the child was not given the surname of either one so must have been given up to the Delicate family.  They may have been relatives but around 1833 ish  I have been informed that a fight broke out between a Mary Kite and Ann Delicate so I imagine it must have been documented somewhere. Also if it is possible to get employment details it might show what happend to Mary Kite when she became pregnant, was she sacked or did she end up in the poor house or worse.
It appears that there was a marriage between the Kites and the Delicates so was she a child of that marriage and fell pregnant at an early age.

Hello Nell,

Thanks for that, on his daughters marriage certificate his name is spelled Craymer so I assume it is the same person as I have come across several different spellings.  Its good that I now have his parents names which will open further research, seems that he was the middle of his siblings then.
Do you by any chance know the dates and locations of his parents residence, I know its a long shot but I wondered if there may have been a Naval connection.

Regards,
Alan.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / james craymer of portsmouth b1802
« on: Thursday 30 April 09 20:01 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on  James Craymer (maybe various spellings)   or his family, as far as I know he was born in portsmouth around 1802, he was a bootmaker by trade and married Ann Goodyear (again maybe different spellings)  possibly in London but I don't have a date, he was living in parts of London, Lambeth, Kennington as all of his children were born there.
I believe he died around 1869 in Lambeth, but I would like to find out where he lived in portsmouth, when he moved to London and any details of parents and sibling's.

Many thanks for any help you can give me,
Alan
