Hi Bigpotts

Having not found any relevant record in the Colorado Marriage index, I think that the Elizabeth L Williams who married Richard Richards in Racine, Wisconsin in Sept 1885, is worth consideration.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRKX-R3M

Richard Richards, a much older man, passed away on the 28 Feb 1887 in Mount Pleasant, Racine.

His probate file dated 9th Mar 1887-1890, Case Number: 70-1289, is available on A*.

A statement in the petition papers towards the end of this file reads:-

"The said deceased left him surviving his widow Elizabeth Richards resident at present at Central City, Colorado and that she has since married and is now Elizabeth Davis."

Hi John

About halfway down the page on the following link, there is an interesting autobiographical note and, further down, info re: Monica's SIL and niece, also authors.  Her SIL was Ursula Marguerite Dorothea Orange 1909-1955, who married Dennis Hamilton Tindall 1934 Marylebone 1A 1727.

http://tinyurl.com/Mrs-Prioleau-Tindall-Family

'Footprints in Paris' by Gillian Tindall, Monica's niece, relates some of the family's history.  A few pages are available to view at http://tinyurl.com/hn6kgvm

Following on from the research above, free searches on ScotlandsPeople gives a 1935 marriage RD St Giles for Monica McClean Tindall to an Edward Brian M Campbell and, matching 1999 death entries in RD Dalry (Dumfries and Galloway) for Monica McClean Campbell and Tindall, aged 92, MMN Jacob, which is confirmed on the new GRO index for Monica's 1907 birth.

Her husband was probably Edward Brian Moore Campbell born 1910 Whitehaven MMN Calder, whose parents were Robert William Campbell and Clara Louise Calder.  Their marriage of 21 Jun 1893 can be found at

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/cec0d87556002

The family are in Cleator in 1901

There is a reference obit for Edward in 1993 on the following link, but I haven't located a death record.

Welcome and a pleasure.

That's brilliant Chiad.

The death notice was easy to miss.  It needed a bit of fuzzy searching and a lot of luck, as the OCR recognised 'beloved wife of the late Hugh Ruxton' as 'be-loved wife of the lale Hujh RUkton'!  :D

The Common Room / Re: Canadian arranged marriages?

Hi Groom

So pleased that it looks like we've got there with Mabel.

We can only guess at how much of a leap of faith it would have been for her to move out to a far away country with her children and marry a man that she perhaps had only learnt about from her father's family.

Mabel's cousin William served in England with the Canadian Expeditionary Force 1916-1919 and his extensive service file gives addresses in Exmouth and Folkestone for Eliza during this time.

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/first-world-war-1914-1918-cef/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=403812

It is of course a possibility, depending on when Thomas became a widower, that when they were back over in England, William and/or Eliza may have met up with Mabel and have talked to her about Thomas and, perhaps, even shown a photo.
