Renfrewshire / Re: McConnochy/Thomson/Hemphill 1861 Census
« on: Friday 25 November 05 23:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi ,

Do you think there could be any connection as Sara had other siblings who may have stayed in Scotland and propagated.
I know of a sister and brother Ameilia and Robert Hemphill.
The Thompson's are proving a bit harder to trace. I know of Elizabeth, Neil and Ann for sure but feel there may be more siblings I haven't yet found.

Renfrewshire / McConnochy/Thomson/Hemphill 1861 Census
« on: Sunday 03 July 05 08:57 BST (UK)  »
John McConnochy and Elizabeth Thomson were married Bridge of Weir 26th Nov 1852 looking for her siblings Neil Thomson who married Sarah Hemphill 1862 Houston and Killellan Kilbarchan and Ann Thomson another sister.

All emigrated to New Zealand 1862 and 1864 along with John McConnochy's brother Joseph and other family members. All were Irish born and I do not know when they moved to Scotland. Parents for the Thomson's are Francis Thomson and Ann Black- noted as both deceased on Neil's marrage cert, especially looking 1861 census for Neil, Sarah and Ann.
Any help greatly appreciated

Also looking for Neil Thomson in the Kilbarchan area and a sister Ann Thomson maybe same area. Also Neil's wife Sarah Hemphill and family in the Kilbarchan area too.

Any help greatfully appreciated as someone looked this up for me previously but lost it all when my PC crashed.

Kind regards and many thanks in anticipation

Glamorganshire / JOHN FAMILY OF LLANTRISANT
« on: Saturday 06 November 04 23:23 GMT (UK)  »
I have found Elizabeth John widow of David John now married to a William Thomas in the 1871 census along with her children:

E ? John aged 17 born America-? Llewellyn

David John aged 15 born America- found back in USA 1880's

Gomer John aged 13 born America-found dth Llantrisant

Howell (sic) John aged 11 born America- nothing more found yet

William John aged 8 born America-died aged 13 1875 Llantrisant

M? John aged 5 born Llantrsant Glamorgan 1866.(male)

2 other children Eustace born 1847-48 and Margaret born 1849-50 not living with her

I know David John her first husband died Sept 1866 and have his dth cert.

I have 3 questions requiring help.???

1. On census eldest sons name appears to start with an E but I have Llewellyn as the son who should be aged 17 is there another way of spelling his name in welsh?

2. the youngest child appears to be Murry J? would this be a girl or boy? as I find Elizabeth in the 1881 census with a daughter Morfydd aged 15 but a son aged 5 in the 1871 census???? and

3. can anyone translate the name Morfydd for me please into English.

Many thanks in advance for any help received
