Thanks for all your replies - these are all the questions that I have been trying to find one answer to.  I am not sure of the birth and I have linked him to a James Shepherd christened Haberglam Eves 19 Aug 1797, dying in 14 Dec 1862 in Scots Lane Aspull - but not sure of that.  In 1841, 1851 census a James Shepherd living Aspull.  Don't know even if this is the right family - that is the confusion.  Can't find any other Benjamin Shepherd born to a James that seems to match anything further.  I live in Australia so am trying to tie in area of Lancashire on maps.

Can anyone help me with Benjamin Shepherd, born 5 June 1825, supposedly Manchester, married Mary Heaton Sept 1850 in Manchester.  Trying to prove his parentage.  On his marriage certificate said father was James Shepherd, a coalminer.  Have a birth which states father James - a weaver and mother Mary Ann - christened Habergham Eves.  Can't locate Benjamin in 1841 census - ones located have different parents.  Have rest of his history, but cannot PROVE his parentage, and/or provable siblings.

Thanks I have his death certificate, but am unable to completely confirm his birth, but the 1841 census says he was not born in country, so that helps.  But thanks very much.
