Staffordshire / Re: The Manse, Summerhill Road, Coseley photo
« on: Friday 31 July 15 16:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi lisa, no this is not the same building as the manse I have pictures of. Also, the number of the one my family have links to is 43. I still have family who live on summer hill road on the early odd numbers side. On the opposite side (evens side) it was waste ground for the whole of my childhood, apart from an old semi of which one side was a grocers/general store we called cox's. There is a little 'sons of rest' building on that side too.
Maybe there was another manse on summer hill road near to that semi? Wish I could help more.

Hi Lisa,

I too am researching the origins and occupants of the Georgian and Victorian houses in Summerhill Road and was interested in the fact that you said the Manse was numbered 37...   I am trying to establish if the Manse has any connection with Albert House or Summerhill House so would be most interested to see any photos you have.  If you have names of the occupants this would also be most helpful.

Regards
Nina.

That is a great photo despite the fact that it not very sharp, it was probably copied from a newspaper or magazine.
A stroke of luck that the photo in all three instances was taken from more or less the same spot.  I wonder why the top half of the street where it meets with Furnance Parade/Brick Kiln Street was never photpgraphed ?
What were the names of your ancestors and when did they live in that area ?

I too have ancestors who lived in Coppice Street and in the surrounding streets and have managed to track down just one photo of Coppice Street taken in the 1970's after the demolition of most of the street, so would be interested in seeing your photo.

This link shows Coppice street and some of the surrounding streets, if it doesn't work for you let me know.     edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/launch.aspx?&eid=9aa29464-6e71-48db-a412-9de844557ee8&pnum=17&from=search

Here also is a screen grab of Coppice Street taken from Google Maps, amazingly one of the three storey houses had escaped the bulldozer at the time Google did its street view.

Hi Treefan

A bit behind the times I know, but I was wondering if you ever managed to obtain a photo of Coppice Street, Tipton ?

Kildare / Re: Curragh Camp. Regiments
« on: Thursday 03 June 10 14:16 BST (UK)  »
I'm a newbie too, so please bear with me.  ???

My great grandfather Simon Short, attested for the 26 Brigade of Infantry and joined General Service at Curragh Camp on 1st July 1879.

In May 1880 he transferred to Aldershot.

Can someone tell me the difference between a Brigade of Infantry and a Regiment please, and which, if any, were at Curragh Camp between  Jul 1879 @ May 1880.

I have looked at all the previous posts for regiments stationed at Curragh, but there are none listed for those particular dates.

Some superb research done for The Curragh by members, well done !

Hi Treefan,

I used to cycle through the Summerhill area on my way to work 45 years ago !!  its vastly different now of course.

Summerhill Tipton is a roughly rectangular area bounded on all sides by Salter Road, Upper Church Lane, Locarno Road and Central Avenue.    If you go into Google Maps search either of the above mentioned roads in the Satellite tab. Don't forget to add Tipton to your search.

Which families are your reasearching in that area ?    Mine are    -    Davies(Davis)/ Short/ Stanford/ Langford/ Jay(Say)/ and Constable.

Best of luck

Nina
