Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Re: namtu burma ~Bennet and McCay
« on: Monday 16 April 18 02:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am throwing myself into this research too and wondered you guys had turned up anything. After cross-referencing ancestry, fibis, and family search I ended up wanting to delete everying before the marriage of CHarles John Bennett and Anna Jordan, because working backwards that was my last best known good configuration - lol.

There are a couple questions. If Jane McCay was born in 1811 and was already a widow when she married John Bennet in 1825 she would have been 14 and already widowed. There is another Jane and John Bennet wedding listed too which had me confused. I think in the second case the Jane was born in England. I see a death for one Charles in India and another later in Scotland.

I am at w i l d l o r at g m a i l dot com if either of you want to talk off the web stream. Also am online via my D'Fini tree  (Millicent Clarissa Bennet (daughter of Charles John Bennett and Ellen Grace Goultchman Clarke was my mom's grandmother)) She married into the Finch family.

Name:   Charles Bennett
Gender:   Male
Marriage Date:   18 Jul 1825
Marriage Place:   Poonamallee, Madras, India
Spouse:   Jane Mcclay

Her death record shows 1811 as approx birth year.

The second marriage I was confused by is:
NAME:   Charles Bennett
GENDER:   Male
MARRIAGE DATE:   31 May 1825
MARRIAGE PLACE:   Calcutta, Bengal, India
SPOUSE:   Jane Lumsdeine Or Lumsdaine
FHL FILM NUMBER:   498955
HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS
NAME
Charles Bennett
Jane Lumsdeine Or Lumsdaine

marriages two months apart both Charles's and Jane's

Interestingly Jane had a sister Francis and both married Bennetts about four years apart (probably brothers, both in Calcutta - John and Charles Bennett). Their birth years make more sense but I don't have enough family history to know which Jane and Bennett combo are "my"pair.
I think it is the Madras Charles and Jane McClay - so I am probably in the same lane as you are Normalynne. I'll keep plugging away

Hi Kris, where should I look for those Eliza Thomas's you found in Redruth and Helston? I tried the OPC search and didn't have any luck.

Warm regards, Lorena

Dear good researchers ~ I am a relatively new student of genealogy and our family history. We have a mystery not far back in the line...

I am looking for the name of the father for "Emily Thomas Jacka" born in 14 January Gwennap in 1860. Her mom was Mary Ann Jacka and we don't know if she was married to the father. She later married William Dobb (first wife was Susannah Glasson) and had two additional children with him. When he passed away, she emigrated with the children to Canada and Mary Ann then went on to Butte while Eliza stayed in Canada (Capelton Mines). Eliza died in 1903. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas, I am grateful. I have searched census records and many online sites. One person listed James Jacka as Eliza's father but that is the name of Mary Ann's father. Mary Ann's mother was Mary Ann (Blanchard) Jacka. Others in the family wondered if Thomas was the name of the father since it is included as her middle name.

Many thanks and best regards, Lorena
