Dublin / Re: glassworks in Dublin 1830's to 1875

Hi Angel,

Thanks for your enquiry. John Macauley Carrick did have a brother but I don't know his name. His father Alexander and his brother were buried in St Thomas Church Dublin. Unfortunately that Church burnt down and he mentioned them on a headstone in Mt Jerome Cemetery.
I have never found any records of the buriels for that Church.

I have never found a birth record for his brother but John and his 5 sisters were all born in Scotland John born 1804. The whole family moved to Ireland I believe in 1823/24. John married Ellen (surname unknown) and their first child was born 1827.

The only other Carrick  Family in Dublin at the time was Michael and Robert Carrick. Michael was a broker and Robert was a Stationer. The earliest record I could find was 1829 Carrick and Sons Stationers at 29 Bachelor  Walk Dublin.

I don't think they are brothers but I'm sure they are family connected. When Robert Carrick married Eliza Murphy John Carrick was the witness.

John's father was Alexander Carrick a writer (lawyer) at the time of the children's birth. I think John his parents and siblings came to Dublin to be an agent for the Dumbarton Glass company. John's sister married into the family and John's business from 1835 was in the Glass business.

I don't know if this helps you. I have a copy of the record that shows Frederick marrying Catherine Franklin and as it was in the St Mary's parish where John and Ellen lived in 5 Mary's Abbey i'm sure they are family.

As was the case at that time many children were born. David Boyd had 2 wives. The first Margaret Blackwood who is Henry's mother. She died around 1800 and David remarried Agnes McNeilly. She was much younger than David. They had 7 children that I know of and the youngest was William My GG Grandfather was born 1821.

In my own family, my mother and my older sister both gave birth a few days apart in the same year.
In big families this happened.

Yes definitely. Henry Boyd b.1791 son of David Boyd married Martha and they are both buried in the old churchyard in Kilkeel side by side. Henry was the Coastguard in Newcastle before his death in 1847. Henry and Martha had Henry born 1820 in county Clare where he was based as a boatman. Henry junior married Mary Ann Sullivan in  Kilcoo church of Ireland 1851.
As you will read by the other posts Henry Junior followed in his fathers footsteps.

David Boyd Linen Merchant of Kilkeel, Henry Snr's father, had another son who was a seaman for 4 years, John Boyd who lost his life when The Venus was lost off the Isle of Man 1817.

i should clarify, the Henry Boyd born Antrim 1859 is the grandson of Henry Boyd born 1791.

Hi Nichotj,
Henry Boyd Snr born 1791 is my GGG Uncle. I have been searching for information on his son Henry who followed him into the Coastguard service.

Henry Snr father was David Boyd Linen Merchant of Kilkeel, who came from the Dundrum area in the late 1700's to work in the flax industry.

These posts have helped me so much.

Henry Snr's brother William moved to Dublin and married in 1851 to Jane Carrick and two of their sons migrated to Australia in 1876 and 1883.

I would love to hear from you and your family.

Hi all,
I read with interest of the Boyd Manuscripts. Has anyone every seen these or ordered these?
David Boyd of Kilkeel is my GGG Grandfather and he married a Margaret Blackwood sometime before 1800.
I wonder if it's worth trying to get a copy to see if his family tree is listed in these manuscripts?

Thanks

Down / BOYD MCNEILLY CRORY MATIER FERGUSON CHAMBERS FAMILIES IN KILKEEL
« on: Saturday 25 June 16 23:47 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my Boyd Family in Kilkeel. I have recently found David Boyd Linen Merchant of Kilkeel b. 1752 d. 1825 is my GGG Grandfather.

David married Agnes McNeilly sometime around 1800 and they had children Robert b. 1804, Sarah b. 1812, John b. 1817 and William b. 1821.

While in Newry last year I saw records from Hugh Irvine's (dec) collection in Bagnals Castle that connected us with other families. These records showed Hugh had seen copies of Indentures concerning David Boyd and his children listed below, that were in the possession of the Chambers and or Ferguson family in Kilkeel.

I would like to make contact with anyone who is connected with any of these families so I can continue to understand and grow our family in Kilkeel.

thankyou Babzi

Hi Freckles,
Did you find any information on Henry Boyd Coastguard of Newcastle? I think he was a brother or a son of David Boyd the Linen Merchant of Kilkeel and Magheramurphy. They both have identical Headstones in the Old Kilkeel churchyard beside each other. In the Freeholders list for Barony of Mourne David Boyd lists three names in October 1819, David Boyd, Henry Boyd and John Boyd.

His headstone lists Martha as his wife who died in May 1845.

David Boyd the Linen Merchant is my G-G-G Grandfather. If you have more information on your family I would love to hear from you.

Hi Peter,

I agree with you we are on the same ancestral page!
I don't subscribe to Ancestry currently but do occasionally log in at the library.

If you could send me the info on this page or privately at (*) I would be grateful.

I am travelling to Ireland for a holiday in September. And spending a day in Proni to catch up on unfinished searching for my Boyd family connections.  Maybe I can also search John Dwyer Kelly also.

Are you based in the UK or US?

I am in  Australia.

cheers
