If the Archives prove disappointing I will have to make do with trying to locate the streets they lived in, even though I do not have definte street numbers.  At various times they lived:
Gloucester St, St Helier
3 Belmont Cottage, Belmont St, St Helier
Belmont Place, St Helier
Meadow View, Beaumont, St Helier

Looking at Google maps, most of these streets (although quite long streets) still exist.

I may have a little more luck researching another member of the family: Charles William Herbert Connolly, who between 1900-1908 was a Church of England minister & lived at the Vicarage, St Martin, Jersey with his wife and 3 children.

Many thanks for your advice.  I will certainly make the Archives my first port of call.

I am looking forward to exploring your lovely island.

Thank you, yes I have tried the Jersey Archives - unsuccessfully unfortunately, however, I will definitely try to visit in person, perhaps someone there may have some suggestions of where to look.

Perhaps I just need to keep my head down and inspect each paving stone? lol!

Thank you for that website suggestion, unfortunately the records kept for these cemeteries are later than I need.

I will be visiting Jersey from Australia in October & if possible would like to find the graves of my 5 x g grandparents who died in 1835 & 1855 respectively.  At the time of their death they both lived in St Helier so I assume it likely that they are buried in The St Helier cemetery.  Would there be any surviving grave records for this period & if so where would I be able to search them?

Just one other thought as my 5 x grandfather was in the Royal Marines would he perhaps be buried in a naval/military cemetery (if there is one of course)?

Bingo!!

I have quite a lot of information which I can share with you.

Are you a descendent of William Willmington?

Yes, John Shorland was definitely a younger brother of Sarah Shorland - both were children of Thomas Shorland and Sarah Spiller.

John Shorland came to the colony as a Bounty Immigrant on the ship "Marquis of Hastings" which arrived on 4th Feb 1841 - I think about 1 year after William & Sarah Willmington migrated.

John also lived in Broulee, NSW for a number of years (as did the Willmingtons).

I recently obtained a copy of a Will written by John & Sarah's aunt Elizabeth which is very interesting.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: Death Connolly St Helier Jersey

Hi Stewart,
My source of information re both Peter & Elizabeth Connolly's deaths etc is The National Archives.  Unfortunatley, informaton they provided is very little - they supplied only 2 pages for PC & 1 for EC in answer to my requests for information.

PC's information gave death as 27 Feb 1835, address as Gloucester St, St Helier - half pay of 13 pounds 1 shilling to go to widow Elizabeth Connolly & copy of letter from Thos Orange? (Curate) re burial on 2 Mar 1835.
EC's gave death as 13 Dec 1855 - widow's pension of 8 pound 10 shillings - Name & address of claimant Charlotte Hooper wife of Thomas Hooper - Ext. according to terms of Will - address Meadow View, Beaumont, St Helier.
I have tried to find all these people on 1841 thru to 1901 census using both name & address searches to no avail.  All these people including Elizabeth Canning are proving very elusive.

Thanks again, for all your help.  Regards, Perth

Stewart

Thank you for your very prompt reply.

I would be interested to know if there is any mention of a Charlotte Hooper - wife of Thomas Hooper as she received Elizabeth's navy widow's pension on Elizabeth's death.  I don't know who she is or if she is related in some way to Elizabeth & Peter Connolly.

I can't find Charlotte or Thomas Hooper in any census but at the time of Elizabeth's death her address was Meadow View, Beaumont, Jersey.  Perhaps she is a daughter? or sister?

Many thanks,
Perth
