Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Dale family, Whitby area
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi Pels & the Mc,
Many thanks for your help, especially you Pels, you have helped before. The original Fletcher family tree from the Whitby area is well over 300 yrs old and has been kept up to date until this day by the family who moved to Canada. It is very accurate apart from maybe a couple of anomalies here and there. This one we are trying to clear up is finding the correct Hannah Dale and her side of the family.

The 1841 census is correct, they were both 75 at time of census and the Hannah Dale (born 2nd March 1766) from the Whitby area is the only one which seems to fit the bill. I have her death as 14th March 1861, could be wrong though. George Fletcher's birth is written down as 21st March 1765 at Whitby. This could also be wrong.

There is John and Hannah Dales cropping up all around the area, still a little confused here, I just do not want to pick the wrong ones out and say thats a definate without a little more evidence.

Thanks very much so far
Mike

Hi,
After a long time searching I am coming up blank, I am wondering if anyone can help.

I have a Hannah Dale born abt 1766 in Whitby, father named as John Dale. Can anyone find the date of birth for John Dale, his marrage date and wifes name (maiden name). also I have Hannah married to a George Fletcher, both married at Lythe 1791, is this the correct Hannah Dale. Thanking you all very much for your time with this problem of mine, it would be a great help to find the answers.

My Grandmothers maiden name was Jackson and Ernest was her relation. My gran was born in Loftus (Lofthouse) in 1906 and passed away 1987. Her fathers name was Joseph Thomas Jackson 1871 -1954, and her grandfathers name was Christopher Jackson 1844 - 1931. I am guessing that Ernest W Jackson is Christophers son born in Loftus 1886.

Thanking you for your help so far, I hope you may be able to get more information from what I have given above. Please note that I originally come from that area but I have lived in Scotland for a number of years now.

Many thanks for your help so far

Mike

Hi All,
This one is a long shot I need help with, so here goes. Ernest Wilfred Jackson was one of my Uncles, I do not have much information on him apart from the following.

He was a Commadore in the Merchant Navy during WWII and captured by the Japanese possibly in Singapore. I was told I saw him when he came home after the war but he died soon after due to the malnutrition and very bad treatment from the Japanese. His name, I was told was added to the War Memorial in Middlesbourgh. Any help would be marvelous.

Regards
Mike
Updated today. His name was Ernest Wilfred Jackson, not William. I am not sure but he might have been promoted to Commadore after the war and lived longer than I thought. Possibly Stockton area. I do not think he will be on a war Memorial.

Hello Madpants,
Many thanks for your quick response and help to my message. It now confirms some information of what I had and gives me more reference his Date of Death in Macclesfield which needs more research. I will look up the WWI records for his service, many thanks for your help. I now live in Scotland and find it hard to get information sometimes.

Hi All,
I am trying to find out anything I can about a Francis Robert Lofthouse, born approx 1894 in Thornaby, he was on the 1901 census aged 7 for that area. He married a Florence May Sowerby in 1913 aged 19. Apparently he left his wife at some point and disappeared. Any help in finding out where he went, did he re-marry, when and where he died etc would be a great help.

Best Regards
Mike Fletcher
