Hello Melmaree,

There are six John Hawkins Marriages recorded in the index between 1820 and 1830, but only one married a Sarah and the entry is as Alan's reply; John Hawkins - Sarah Sates 25-09-1825 Kidlington.

Regards

Chris.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: CROSS family, Milton under Wychwood
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Pat,

This is a big question.

Looking at the Milton-under-wychwood parish register transcripts suppled by the OFHS, I can only find one single entry. And that is; baptism Sept 1 1893 Winifred May daughter of Peter Edward and Sarah Emma. Father's occupation is given as Factory foreman.

The Parish records for Milton only go back to 1854, prior to that, and I'm making an assumption here, you need to be looking in Shipton-under-Wychwood. If my assumption is correct the earlist record I can find in Shipton is the Baptism and subsequent burial of Thomas and William Crosse (yes with an "e") sons of Willm on July 16th 1595. Their ages are not given.

The earliest marriage that I can find was on June 24th 1622 and was between Rafe( printing of forename is unclear but it looks like Rafe to me) Crosse, again with an "e", and Agnes Pitchell. I have no other information regarding this marriage.

Again this information was taken from the Oxfordshire Family History Society's Parish register transcript CD covering the Chipping Norton Reg District with Shipton being on Volume 2 and Milton being on Vol 3.

Hope this is of help
Chris.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Sarah Lord 1810-1836 Handborough
« on: Friday 18 September 09 18:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

The  records are for St. Peter and St. Paul's Church at Church Hanborough so I sure that is where she is buried.

Living in Somerset as I do I'm not familiar with the area around Hanborough, but the introduction page says that Church Hanborough lies about a mile south of Long hanborough and about 3/4 mile east of Freeland. Using Google Earth to look at the three villages, St Peter and St Paul's at Church Hanborough is the only church I can see. I don't think we can go wrong here.  :)

I also see that the spelling "Handborough" was used by curates from between 1819 and 1850. I'd often wondered why the two spellings - now I know.

Glad to be of help.

regards

Chris.

Hi,

Looking on the OFHS parish register transcripts for Hanborough on their CD OXF-WIT02, there is a marriage record:

1832 Apr 23 Sarah Lord Married Philip Crawford witnesses were Elizabeth Lord and Caleb Luck.

Extending this forward there is a burial record:

1836 Nov 13 Sarah Crawford age 26.

I can't be sure that this is the Sarah Lord that your looking for but it looks promising.

Chris.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Willoughby family - Ramsden
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 06:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello Sam,
Sorry to be so long in replying to you, I only received your reply this Morning (Tuesday 1st Sept).

The Oxfordshire Family History Society have a very good Library of Cd's and Microfiche that cover the Parish register Transcripts. These can be bought on-line from www.ofhs.org.uk, the Cd's cost £17.50 each.

The CD that covers Ramsden from 1842 on is WITNEY registration district Vol 3 part no OXF-WIT03; prior to 1842 when Ramsden's own church was built, Ramsden was part of the Shipton-under-wychwood parish. The CD for that is CHIPPING NORTON Reg District Vol 2 part number OXF-CN02. You will also find members of the Family at North Leigh (OXF-WIT02) and Finstock (OXF-CN030.

I have it from a reliable source that John was one of Twelve although I have only found Eleven, 6 boys and 5 Girls.

Hope this helps.
Regards

Chris.

Hi Sam,

I have John's Father, Edmund, as a certainty. Edmund's Father is Richard, taken from Shipton under wychwood's parish records for Edmund's birth. I have a possible marriage for Richard but no definite birth record.

Most of the Willoughby's in Ramsden where related to one another. If I include my own 3 children I have 90 Willoughbys in my tree, the vast majority being born in or around Ramsden and all of them descended from Richard.

With regards to Alfred and Sarah's children, I'll need to look a little further as I only have twelve of them.

I would never call myself an authority on the Willoughby's, but I do have a fair amount of data concerning the Ramsden part of the family. the afore mentioned Richard being my 5th Great grand father; feel free to blunder it.

Regards

Chris.

If it's any help, I have a copy of Alfred's birth certificate which gives date of birth as 27 July 1838, Fathers name is  John Willoughby and Mother's name is Hannah Willoughby; her maiden name is given as Clark(e) (writing is unclear but I believe it finishes with an e).
I too am looking for Alfred & Sarah's marriage but as of yet have been unsuccessful. I am also looking for John & Hannah's marriage and can't find that either. Hannah seems to have been born in Longborough in Gloucestershire c1802 (1861 census) as were Charles & George, Alfred's elder brothers, so I have been looking there for the marriage.
Alfred and his brother Charles appear as Lodgers at Cropthorne in Worcestershire on the 1871 Census, but Alfred is back with his family in Ramsden in the 1881 census.
With regards to the Ramsden parish records all of Alfred's and Sarah's children are there even the first born Charles Willoughby who I have as being born in Bristol in 1867, baptised 1 Jan 1868.

Regards
Chris.
