My my once you get the bit between your teeth there's no stopping you guys :), Thank you so much for all your information it's gone way beyond my wildest dreams I am so grateful.
You've given me so much to look at and given me things and ideas to explore so for the time being I think it might be wise to conclude this post.

Once again thank you so very much its so very much appreciated  :)

Thanks Neil and I went and put "Rockport" instead of Rockhampton what a ninny I am. Would you say or feel that it is NZ that I should be looking at and of course looking for Violet and any other children they may have had.
I take it your a "Kiwi", I quite like that term  :) as it conjures up blue sky's and a laid back way of life but if you prefer not to be called that then I will respect your feelings and not do it again.

;D, Neil, mfcnt and chrisane I can not tell you how grateful I am for your help it's absolutely mind blowing what you have found for me.

The name of the boat they traveled on is now going to be something for me to look at and find out more about.

I am going to be speaking to my cousin, who was also in on the conversation with the elderly relative when she spoke about "someone" emigrating, asap this morning to ask her about a phone call she got about 15/18 months ago (her son actually took the call but he couldn't remember an awful lot and didn't have presence of mind to ask key questions such as a name!!!) from a man who purported to be calling from Australia, this may be something but it also may be nothing.

I'm sorry its taken a few days to reply to your posts as at work we are moving into a brand, spanking new hospital and its been a bit of a logistical nightmare to get clinics set up and ready for Monday and this is another area, despite the hard work, I am so excited about.

Once again thank you so so very much there really aren't the words to make you understand how grateful I am.

Polly.

Oooh this is where I show my total ignorance and say (I am renown for my total lack of geography) are we talking about Australia or New Zealand ??? cos I thought Brisbane was Australia but then you spoke of Rockport which I also thought was in Australia but then you spoke of Christchurch which I associate with New Zealand. I so sorry to appear to be so thick.
If only you could see me sitting here grimacing and pulling an ashamed face at my ignorance and hoping you don't think badly of me for it

Hi Neil thank you for taking the time to look, in answer to your question as to whether they definitely headed for Brisbane I found the following on "Find my Past" on the Passenger List leaving the UK 1890 to 1960:

SIMCOCK Simron
D.O.B.                                  1875
                                            MALE
DATE OF DEPARTURE            1900
FROM                                    LONDON
TO                                        BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

SIMCOCK Maggie
D.O.B                                    1877
                                             FEMALE
DATE OF DEPARTURE            1900
FROM                                    LONDON
TO                                        BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA.

There is a spelling mistake in that Simeon's name has been spelt Simron, and they both seem to have gained an extra year on the birth dates I found on Staffordshire BMD. I searched on Staffordshire BMD's  and found Simeon and Maggie's births, Simeon's christening record and the marriage record but no death records for either of them, it was a relative who mentioned that my great grandfather's brother had emigrated and initially I thought it might have been New Zealand but after doing some digging around I decided to try Australia and it was suggested that "Find my Past" may help, I did and the above is what I found. I did wonder if I could try shipping lists

Staffordshire / Re: Nancy Tonks

Hi Bob, my grandmother Selina Simcock nee Astbury was born in, according to her birth cert, Chesterton,Newcastle-under-Lyme, at 11 Cross Street which sadly is no longer there (the street name is still there but sadly the houses aren't) her date of birth is 28.05.1902.
I have a Norman but have him as being born c1894, I also have a sister for Selina, Margaret born1885 and her place of birth as being Cheadle Staffordshire, and another brother Frank born 1911 and who was married twice once to a Norah Bentley in 1933 and then for a second time to a May Charlesworth/Shenton in 1964.
I have Nancy Tonks born 1882 in Oldbury,Staffordshire, she had a sister Selina born 1888 and that's about as much as I know about her
I have an aunt with the middle name of Selina so it seems that the name has been passed down through the family.

I do hope this is of use to you

Polly

Thanks Carol, in the last few months or so I got hold of the marriage cert of James Simcock to an Harriet Hancock and on it it stated that James father was a Benjamin Simcock...what I'm looking for is any siblings of James so far I've not had any luck.

Benjamin was married to an Lettice Bailey and they were married on 10/12/1825 at Horton nr Leek, Staffordshire.

James, Benjamin's son, was born in 1838, here I am assuming that he was born at Horton.

I cant believe that Benjamin and Lettice would have had only one child but I can't find any more for them.

Hi not sure if this will help, I have Nancy Tonks who married an Edward Asbury in 1918.
Nancy and Edward had my grandmother Selina Asbury hence the connection.

Nancy's mother also Nancy was married to John Tonks they married in Stone,Staffordshire in 1881, it seems that John was married twice as he went onto marry a Martha Smith who was born in Etruria Vale,Stoke-on-Trent in 1869.

Do hope this is of some help to you
