Monaghan / Re: Murphy's of Clones & Callowhill, Monaghan
« on: Monday 09 April 12 00:57 BST (UK)  »
Bridget Murphy Dunn is sister to my great grandmother Mary Murphy Fay. I'm afraid I have  noting more than names for Bernard and Bridget and that they lived in Callowhill, Parish of Currin, Barony Dartree, Union Clones, County, Monaghan.

I have some information on Bridget and Mary's sisters Anna and Rose ( who was like a grandmother to my father as Mary died in 1929. I'm told as a child we used to visit her in Newburyport.  Other than Michael I have very little on the boys.

I have your Briget up to 72 years old, and I have her children but not any information on them.

I grew up in Brockton, where they lived. Would love to share information with you.

Maureen

How exciting. Yes, we are cousins. I am Catherine Doyle Robinson's Great granddaughter. My great grandfather George Robinson ( not Welch, he was a compositor, or printer) immigrated to (Dorchester) Boston in 1886, in 1889 his wife Kate Doyle Robinson and 3 year old son John followed and a year later, Kate's brother William came and lived with them. My Mom is with me for the Holiday and so excited about this connection. She was very close to her Uncle Billy ( your grandfather). I know that William's family settled in Dorchester. In 1902 Kate and George moved from Dorchester to Brockton, that's where I grew up. My Mom (Mary Reardon Fay b. 1920) stayed in touch with Dick and Evelyn for many years. As children she was closer to Bobby, who died in the war 1945. Kates daughter Agnes Robinson Reardon was my grandmother.
Catherine( Kate) died in 1940. Kate & William's brother Richard was in the military and lived in Devon, England. (I have had a few emails with one of his decendants who is on Ancestry.com. )
Sometime around 1884-1885 the Doyle family moved to Waterford. This is where Kate married George. Their sister Mary married Patrick Power.( The husband of a decendant of Mary's is on Ancestry too. I had a few communications from him. )GGgrandfather John died in 1884. Johanna lived with Mary in Waterford, until she died in 1914.
I had very little information on Francis, my mother recalls that Catherine, entered the convent?  I guess we will be able to fill in some blanks for each other.
My direct email is * I still live in Massachusetts. I will send you an invite to see my Ancestry tree when I have your email.  Merry Christmas. Best Maureen

Ambrose,

Thank you for your search. It was quite generous of you to look so extensively for George. We know he was a compositor on his immigration papers and I believe that was noted on his sons birth record. He did work in the printing business here, so hopefully that rules out that he changed his name and was on the run from the constables.
His son, John Joseph's birth record April 21, 1885, notes Arundel Square, Waterford. He was their only child born in Ireland, Catherine and John remained in Waterford for 3 years after George left for America. I would not be suprised if Mary Powers was his Godmother.
I have attached John's picture as he would be a distant cousin of yours.
Thank you for all the information on the Mary Powers family. My mother, who is 90. has so enjoyed hearing anything I find out about her grandmothers family. They were very close.
Hopefully, some day I'll make it over there and pay my respects at the gravesite in person. If you ever get a snapshot of the memorial stone I would love a copy.
Thank you again, Maureen

If I'm not imposing to ask, and the books are easy to access I would love to find out if there is a record for Catherine Doyle marrying George W Robinson about 1883. He is noted as being born in 1863 in  Waterford, but we have found nothing to lead us towards his parents. We don't know where he began and as he left the family in 1914 - we don't his end either.
If you see anything anything when you are lookiing at the Doyles, I'd appreciate the information.
Most of the information I gave you previously regarding births marriages - came from Tipperary Family History Research of records from the Archdiocese of Cashel.
Have a good trip
Best
Maureen

Hi again,

I looked at my records and realized I have never found a death date for Johanna Withero Doyle. I have John Doyle, son of Matthew and Catherine Burke as dying in Feb of 1884, do you know if he is buried with Johanna?
Here is a picture of Catherine Doyle Robinson b.1860 - d. 1940, Mary'd sister

Hi,

Thank you, I had found Johanna living with Mary and I did know Mary and Richard were siblings. I had received the baptism records form Cashel, and have been researching trying to find all the siblings. Mary and Richard had a sister Kate, she stood up for Mary when she married. She is my Great Grandmother, she had a daughter Agnes, who had a daughter Mary, who had me !
Kate married George Robinson ( my brick wall) in Waterford and they came to Boston Ma. William a younger brother to Kate, Mary & Richard joined the Robinson's.
Would love to hear more and share more. I am in Falmouth, Massachusetts. I did not know where Johanna was burried, thank you for that information
Best,
Maureen

I do have a plan to go to Boston and get a look at Maurice's will, as well as Thomas' Admin. and the guardianship papers. I'm hoping they will hold clues.
There is a marriage record in MAVR to 1850 for John Reardon and Margaret Walsh in Millbury in 1841. I had seen the death record with the name Buttermore. Except for that name,  it looks like a good match. Perhaps if I get answers from the church there'll be an explanation for that.
I also saw the John Reardon who died in Paxton, if it turns out to be the same John, the names of parents would rule him out as a brother to Thomas and Maurice.
Thanks for that link, it's very interesting. And thanks for your input, it's appreciated.
Maureen

Thank you for your reply. I do belong to NEHGS. Sadly, neither the marriage or death of John and Maurice list any parents. I have written to the Diocese in Worcester in hopes the church records may have a clue.

Thank you again, Maureen
