Dorset Lookup Requests / Hampshire Court Flats - Bournemouth
« on: Wednesday 10 June 15 07:27 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have the wherewithall to check a 1938 electoral roll or telephone directory for Hampshire Court Flats in Bournemouth?  To cut a long story short I am a volunteer at the Phyllis Tuckwell Charity Shop in Godalming and we have been donated an album full of 200 odd photos  but NO surnames!!  I'm hell bent on finding family and trying to pick up any clue I can.  The lady album owner moved to Bournemouth to a flat in Hampshire Gardens somewhere between 1936 and 1937 with one son, John.  The chap she is married to is Dick (Richard presumably), a Merchant Seaman Chief Officer (possibly crewing on the Queen Mary).  I know... very little to go on but if I can at least pick up some surnames I can try tracking back with other clues.

Thank you
Sue

Wow, welcome John - this is more than I could have hope for - thrilled!  I think John Douglas Lightbody being someone's uncle is the closest relative I can get as he died so young and childless.  Would love to get in contact with you.  Sandy has my email.

Best regards

Wow Sandy - so glad you've come to Rootschat - very excited now!  Will PM you.

Gingerbit - haven't found an Isabella in the tree yet.  Can you track back any further?

Great digging!  I knew Duncan had offspring but hadn't attempted to track further.  Its amazing how many people are helping out with this research.  Have three 1st cousin twice removed contacts but suprisingly no descendants so far from the Hamilton area.  Keep up the good work and thanks!

Ah - what a lovely piece of history.  I know the father was John D Lightbody and a grocer.  Can't find any reference to whisky though!

Thanks all for your replies - you've done a fantastic job and given me more clues to work on.  The 1911 census was a coup!

Thanks for the SP family info - I too couldn't find anything on the 1911 census.  Was hoping I might find someone before heading down all the brother and sister lines.  Like you I find a challenge irresistible!
