Thank u cider drinker  that was a very quick reply.....I know that David was born in1797 in Montgomershire and ventured to France in 1826.I was assuming that after Switzerland they would have gone back to Wales but after your info maybe not..I have had trouble trying to trace the French side  of David's wife Caroline .I only know that she was born in 1802. Thanks again ...Skl

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / What happened to David Lloyd and his Family

Several years ago I was given help thru this site to find out about my ggrandfather Alphonso Adolphe Lloyd who was born in Alsace France in 1833.His father arrived in Alsace in 1826 when he married a French woman,Caroline Elizabeth Jaeglin. He was employed as an engineer on the locamotives. There were 3 other children born in 1827,1829 and 1835 in France. In 1839,David completed his work and then took his family to Switzerland(Zurich) where I believe another child was born.I have not been able to find out any info on the family accept for Alphonso, who sailed to Australia in 1855 to work in the gold fields...Could someone please help me find out what happened  the rest of the Lloyd family.

Hello Griffi....sorry for the delay in my reply.I am very happy that you did see my message and hopefully we can help each other..Now, from the info I have found,David may have been an engineer...He did work on the locomotives/Rail in Alsace..He was  there in 1826 where he married a Caroline Elizabeth Jaeglin....I found a news cutting dated around 1839 where his contributions are  mentioned .He and his family then left France for Switzerland....No trace of them after that until one of his sons..my gggrandfather (Alphonso Adolph Lloyd) arrived in Australia in 1855 settling in the gold fields...Will leave you with that for the moment..hopefully will hear from you soon ..Regards SKL

Hello Debrob. You are correct. My father was William Alphonse LLOYD (Jessie's brother) and my mother Betsy Reid Martin(FAIRWEATHER) LLOYD are both buried in the wall of rememberance, Fawkner. Annie Maria was a very religious woman according to my sister who along with my mother lived with her  when dad was overseas in 1939 to 1941.She died believing my father was missing in action...Regards SKL
