Hi Diggerman2.
How kind of you to check this out, thank you very much indeed.
We're going to visit in the  spring and, if it's acceptable to the staff, erect a simple wooden cross with a brass plaque where a headstone should be. We'll incorporate the visit with a spot of  sightseeing and a nice overnight stop somewhere.
Many thanks again and a Happy New Year to you and to all Rootschatters.
Regards,
David.

No worries David.
Happy New Year to you too

I was in Thornaby Cemetery yesterday (30th) and located said grave.
There is no headstone on the grave , i placed a tree branch where the headstone 'would be' and took a photo which i've tried (unsuccesfully) to include into this post - sorry.

For future reference , as you go up the main drive (past the lodge) , go to the 2nd set of 'metal bars' either side of the drive (they look like 'bike shed' things but were used for plants).
At the 2nd set , go diagonally right into the secton on the left (if that makes sense) .
That is 'A' section.
On the front row is a grave 'Denison/McMahon' - that is grave number AA17.
Grave AE16 is four rows back and one to the right (as you face it).

Just to give you an idea - but obviously the best way is to arrange for a member of staff to meet you and locate it for you.

Hi, Dawnkaren, many thanks indeed for your reply.
I've emailed Stockton bereavement services with the details that I have, as you kindly advised.
So, now I'm waiting for their reply. I'll let you know what they come up with.

Regards,
David.

They are very helpful at BS in Stockton.
Seeing as he was buried in 1910, I would expect it'll be in the older part of the Cemetery.
I'd suggest the best thing to do would be to ring Bereavement Services (01642 527341/2), and you'll be able to arrange an appointment to have a member of Cemetery staff meet you at the Cemetery and locate the grave for you.

If you contact Bereavement Sevices at Stockton Council , telling them your 'predicament' , and giving them all the possible names , i'm sure they'd be able to let you know who was buried in any of their Cemeteries on that date.

Pretty sure the "Old Hall" on the map is in Egglescliffe village .
Can't imagine it being the same building as a hall in Yarm , as Yarm was in Yorkshire and Egglescliffe was in County Durham.

Would it not be worth having a walk in the cemetery and seeing if there's any members of staff there , who could help you?
I work in a cemetery myself (not Redcar and Cleveland so it could be different) , and if a member of public comes to me asking to find a grave - i'll either find it for them , or ring our office with the relevant details. Our office then supply me with a grave number - and i then locate the grave .

I don't know if Redcar and Cleveland  have staff in their cemeteries through normal working hours , but maybe it's worth a try?

Graveyards and Gravestones / Re: Buried deep!
« on: Saturday 13 July 13 15:45 BST (UK)  »
Yeah the depth of the grave was more to do with getting as many bodies as possible into the grave.
There are many graves in the cemetery where i work that have numerous bodies in , so they were obviously dug very deep originally - whereas nowaday the norm is  6foot (for two) , or 7ft 6 in (for 3).
I have heard of graves being dug to a depth of 20 feet!!!
Can't have been easy - especially before the days of mechanical diggers.

hi andy you will have to contact cemeteries office at acklam to ask them if you can get it re errected and also if you give them the plot number i posted  they will tell you who is burried there ,on 01642 852424 also you have to get a firm who does monumental stone works to do the work good luck dave

Depending on who "owns" the grave space , you may have to get the deeds transferred over to you before any work can be done on the memorial.

Also , if  the other relation you're looking for is buried in a Middlesbrough cemetery , the cemeteries office should be able to give you details.
