"In answer to your question the Ministry of Pensions used Mansion House as a "Home for Neuroasthenics" (shell-shocked soldiers) during what is known as the Great War."

Mansion House is part of the Groby Rd/Leicester Frith hospital. I'm sure this is the place you are looking for.

Hi Alison ;D

Would very much like to  thank you in the trouble you took in helping me :D It really is so very nice of you.  & i really do thank you !!!

Sounds like it is the place at Mansion House Groby rd Leicester. As it was used for shell shock victims Then. I shall look it up on the map. & see if i can find out any more.

Hi Sandra,

I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you, but there is a Barrow-upon-Soar online newspaper, with some local historians who might be able to help:

http://www.barrowvoice.co.uk/spring_2005/old_barrow.html

Barrow and Rothley are two separate villages, about four and a half miles apart--does the certificate give both village names?

:-)

Alison

Hello Aliston.

Thank you for your reply. On the Death certificate it was

registered In Barrow upon soar.

But Death in the sub district of Rothley .

So maybe i need to check out Rothley ?? Thanks for your links shall try & find out from there.

Just had another look at certificate. & where it saids where died .

Home of Recovery Leicester Frith. Looks like R B underneath  cant make that out.   So would that still be under Rothley ???

Kind regards  Sandra .

Leicestershire / Home of recovery Barrow upon Soar Rothley ?????
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 12:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello All.

I'm still looking for   Home of Recovery  , Barrow upon soar Rothley.   Leicester

During world war one. My G G  Uncle was sent there after being in the war for over 3 years he was suffering from shell shock very bad. & was sent back to England from the front line.

Only just over 3 months later he committed suicide at the above home. I have the death certificate. His wife lived in London at the time. Yet i could not understand why he was sent  to Leicester. Maybe some one can shed some light ??

I would just like to find out abit about the home or building.  It could have been a workhouse & part being used as a hospital.

Is there any one who could please check any papers for that time for suicides it was feb 1919. I now live in Australia.

I would so much like to find out as  we are doing our family tree. & i feel i know so much about my uncle now. I am in the process of getting his name  commorated on the CWCG. as it had been left off in error. & his name was misspelt.

His name is Fredrick Charles BYOTT.

I now live in Australia.  Thank you  Sandra

Hi Sandra,

You might try contacting the  "britregiments"  group mailing list  at http://groups.yahoo.com.  They do not specialize in geneaology, but are helpful to those of us with military questions.
