Staff are unable to access records at the moment in Carmarthen due to building problems. There is a brewery in Llandeilo  Evan Evans run by Simon Buckley who descends from the Buckley family,  It might be worthwhile giving him a call to see if he has any records or can help with your request.

I have had a go at translating the Prose and translating from Welsh doesn't always scan word for word. However, this piece is very religious and can either come from the Bible or a hymn although the latter doesn't come up when put into Google - in fact it doesn't come up at all which leads me to believe it was written by the writer as a hymn/prayer or even a piece of prose (for an eisteddfod competition perhaps). There is available an excellent Welsh-English dictionary at www.geiriadur.net run by Trinity St Davids University in Lampeter should you wish to play around with the translation.

Hi, many thanks for your reply to my query. The couple you found do not appear to be the ones I'm searching for as their ages do not match and both have given their country of birth as USA whereas my family were born in Wales.  However, I had never heard of castlegarden,com  and searched there and believe I found Thomas Davies arriving on 19 July 1879 as a 20year old (dob Jan 1861).  They married on 7 July 1879 and I seem to recall a late family member telling me they left for America very soon after the wedding so he would appear to fit the bill as it were.  Eleanor has always seemed to be a bit of a difficult lady to find and the family story is that she travelled across the Atlantic at least 3 times in the short period of time the family lived in America and has been known as Eleanor and Ellen at different times.  Your information has certainly been of help and has given me more places to search.

Not sure if there is.  try Glamorgan Family History Society they have indexes for most graveyards in the county.  If you have a name and date then try the Burial Clerk at the council office in Aberdare who is extremely helpful - 01685 885345.
