Yes on the grassed area at the side of it.
It's sad how many forgotten pubs there are. No pictures of it.

Has maps showing it. Gone by the late 60's

David. Sorry to disagree but I have been collating the pubs of Castleford for some time.

The Crown Hotel was actually at the very top of Aketon Road on its junction with Lumley Steet/High Street/Oxford street. (just down from and opposite Hightown Church.

They are both shown on the same map at the same time.

I have been told that when demolished (60's) the name was transferred to the Crown at Airedale along with the "Queens Head" on Albion Street, also demolished.

The Lancashire & Yorks Hotel (I think this was named after the railway company that ran through Cutsyke) eventually ended up just the Yorkshire Rose (now demolished)

The family also had the Lord Nelson on the river at at Penbank Lock Altofts.

Your Ancestor wouldn't have built the original pub as it was there before the railways. Could have done a rebuild.

The Woodman Inn was definitely north of the M62. The pylon on the Aire and Calder picture is still there and the street in the background is Stainburn Avenue.. I am only down the road.

Amos Beaumont,  a relative, was landlord in 1881.

Someone I know used to work in the coke ovens in Glasshoughton and used the Pub.

When the railway was built in the 1840s Pontefract race course was "chopped off". It used to come close to the M62 area where the pub was.

Tunnels were dug beneath the railway (still there) to allow cattle to be moved off the race course.

MS always seem to think that different is better. They take away menu bar,  but yes, you can restore it. You than have two tools and two favorites .

Took me 10 mins to find the favorites.

Anyone notice that the "read mail" icon has gone. You can restore (right ick on command and customize)
Why isnt it there by default ? (Firefox have done the same!)

There are quite a few bugs being reported so might be better to hold off a while.

Re-registration of illegitimate children was introduced in 1926.
So so they couldn't do it in 1924. When a birth is re-registered the original certificate is "closed" and you get the new one. However the original index remains to show he was illegitimate at the time of birth.
