Hi Mark,

Brilliant, thanks very much for that.  I've been quite puzzled about where Ebezener and Caroline had got to and it's great to see some of his work.

I did try to copy and paste the picture to put in a book that I am writing for my twin nephews about their family, but it didn't quite work. Never mind at least the information is fascinating.

Regards
Jill

Hi Anna-Suzie

The de Brewse were originally the de Broase family from Briouze, Normandy.  It looks like the main line died out in the 1300's with a daughter who married John Mowbray.  A member of a cadet branch of the family was Sir William de Brewse of Stinton Norfolk and Wenham Parva, Suffolk whose daughter Amy married Sir Roger Townshend of Raynham, Norfolk, she died in 1551.  There are numerous spellings of the de Brewse name.

The most famous or infamous of this family were William de Braose who was responsible for the Abergavenny massacre in 1175, one called Black William who was hanged by Prince Llewellyn in 1230 and another William and his mother who were imprisoned and starved to death by King John.

Hello Everyone,

I'm absolutely floored, not only have you broken down my brick wall I now know what happened to Caroline.  Caroline Spencer Allgood was the daughter of Martha Ann Spencer (daughter of my G G Grandfather by his first wife) and Thomas Mathew Allgood.

I came across Ebenezer Hoeck via the Wills and Administrations publication when I found the details for my g.aunt, Caroline Spencer she was the daughter of Martha's half brother Richard Spencer (my g.grandfather).

It was the odd thing about her Will that prompted me to want to know more, Caroline Spencer died in 1915 and her father Richard probated the Will the same year then in 1923 it says that Caroline Spencer wife of Ebenezer Thomson Hoeck probated her Will.  I'd never heard of a Will being probated twice and still don't quite understand how that could be but I'm very grateful for all the information and so pleased to have found Caroline.

Thanks once again.

Hi Sharon,

Thanks very much, that's amazing, I can't believe I got an answer so quickly.  The only thing now is to try and find Ebenezer and Caroline.  I did find an Ebenezer that was a landscape painter and engraver and I'm hoping that is him but I'm a bit puzzled as to why I can't find him and Caroline at all unless of course the enumarator made up his own spelling of the name!!

Hi,

I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to help knock down my brick wall.  Louis Hoeck came to Britain from Germany in 1852.  In 1861 he was living in Paisley In Renfrewshire with wife Mary although I don't know where they married or her surname.  Their son Ebenezer T Hoeck (b.1866 Paisley) was married to an ancestor of mine, Caroline Spencer but I can find no details about the marriage and at the moment Caroline is a bit of a puzzle, if I knew where she was born and in what year I would have a pretty good chance of tracking her down.

Ebenezer was a painter and engraver and I believe he lived in Glasgow from 1885 - 1928.

Thank you. ???

Hi Neil,

Thanks very much for the information, it certainly gives me something to work with.  Maybe it will poke a hole in my brick wall.  I will let you know what I discover.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.  Georgina Emily Spencer b.1878 Aston, Birmingham married Thomas Henry Hick b.1865 Aston.  They married in 1896.  I can't find the family at all on the 1901 census.  I know they had a daughter Myra Edith b.1908 in Birmingham and Georgina and Myra are both on the 1911 census, although not Thomas.

I suppose they could have been out of the country.
