 Thanks, Wul,
According to some information many of my ancestors are buried there.  Great photo.  Slab 115  has the details so I am told.

Wow! Monica, you have opened up another door...I thought John had left Scotland as a young man.  His parents William Armstrong and Agnes Smith shipped out to Australia with him as a two-year-old?  I knew my grandfather was buried in Karrakatta cemetery in Western Australia, so that is absolutely correct.  Do you have the name of the ship?  The port of arrival?  Any death information on William and Agnes?

Thanks, Carole,
I appreciate your help.  I am going to have to make a trip to Scotland and pour through church records I guess.  William and Agnes Smith were married in Paisley in 1851, any data on their marriage?
  Thanks again, Carole

Thank you very much for your replies and interest.  I do have several Williams in the linage and the direct ancestor John, who was born at Tinwald Mill, had a mother named Jane.  Her name was Jane Brown, she died in 1853, so could have been counted in the 1851 census.
My reason for tracking all these wonderful people is to verify and gather details, you know how information gets distorted over the years.
The slab 115 in the Tinwald cemetery records shows John, William, another John and Jane buried there.  My direct ancestors moved north in the early 1800's and my grandfather, another John b 1852, left Scotland for adventures overseas.  There are several Johns so it gets confusing.  The repetitive names in every generation are Jane, Janet, William, John, Thomas, Andrew.
  Thanks again for your interest.
  ps What is Tinwald like?

Thank you very much, that was very helpful.  Are there any records of the death of William or Agnes?  I know John left because I am a direct descendant, I don't know about the other brothers.  I do know that John signed HIS grandfathers death certificate (Also named John) which would indicate that William had died before that.
  Thank you so very much.
  Patrick

Hi, I am writing from Mesa, Arizona, and trying to trace my forebears at the Tinwald Mill.
ggggg John Armstrong 1723-1800 lived and worked at the mill.
gggg Francis Armstrong 1761-1845  lived and worked at the mill
ggg John Armstrong 1798-?  born at the mill, but may have moved north as a young man
gg William Armstrong 1824-? was married in Paisley in 1851 so had moved as a young man or as a child with John Armstrong.
g John Armstrong 1852-1932 born in Neilston and left Scotland as a young man.
Nothing is left of the Tinwald Mill except a piece of the grindstone.
