Hi

WW2 records are still with the MOD at the moment but are in the process of being transferred over to the National Archive.

If he was in the artillery his service number may have been 959051 as there is a recod on FindMyPast for a Harold Arthur Forrest who joined up in 1939.  This is in the follwoing collection of documents

"Royal Artillery Attestations 1883-1942"

Unfortunately it doesn't say much more but if you have his birth date and service number your Mum can try to get his service record.

Hello
Unfortunately you're not allowed to name living people in this forum.  Edit your post and then do  three posts and see if someone can help you via Private Message.  Watch your emails to see if you get a reply.

Blaenau is an amazing communtiy where people care about their neighbours so there is a good chance you can get to the,m.

There are a few people localish to Blaenau Ffestiniog here, perhaps someone can point you in a right direction.   I do not believe there is a local Salvation Army branch but there is a very active church.   Here's a link to their website.

I have a friend who is local to the area and if you like I will contact them for you to see if they know them.

The Common Room / Re: GRO Download Digital Image COMPLETED

Hi

Thank you for getting back to me, I tried again earlier this afternoon and it worked.   I think I may have been too tired last night and hadn't realised that the image is right there as soon as you order;  to view your orders you need to put the dates in.

Hi Biggles

Thank you very much - good to know its not just me.

I had ordered digital images - the £2.50 ones rather than pdf's.  I hadn't realised they were available for deaths so it was a nice surprise.

The Common Room / GRO Download Digital Image

Hi Happy New Year everyone !

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I ordered two death certificates in digital image very late last night, received a payemnt receipt and a confirmation which said the following:

Your order has been successfully sent to GRO for processing.

Customers are advised to read the service announcements on our website.

Please find below the order reference details.

I've checked my account and the orders aren't showing there.   I have two questions:

a)   Does the order show as soon as you make it or does it show when ready to download.
b)   Any idea how long it takes - on the birth certs I've ordered digital images of its been practically instantaneous.

Thank you all

Thankyou. I've just signed up to Yffor, so will give it a whirl. I fear that most of my problems are pre: census records so it may be more difficult. The Jane Prichard I have down, seems to take her fathers first name Richard as surname, most of her siblings seem to be down as Jones - her fathers Surname!! My welsh side of the family is driving me mad  ;) the thing is you find something, you think you've cracked the riddle only to head off down a dead end. Oh well!!

They've got a lot more than census records... the non parochial records may be useful for you

Agreed Collwyn - absolute nightmare; a section of my family were still using it up to the 1860's my great great grandmother married using her father's last name, Howell,  but everywhere else she used Jones.  Her father was John Howell !! Moral of this - don't think it just stops at a certain date be flexible and keep a look out just in case.
